Ok I’ve decided to bite the bullet and start my own members thread. Some of you guys MAY know me from www.supraforms.com.au
OH AND 56K STOP NOW YOU'LL DIE

*please as much as I love helping the next person if you have questions put them in here, don’t pm me as my inbox is always full*

I started out with my Ma70 Limited Gt about 3 years ago, maybe a bit more. It was ordinary besides the Trust 3” system. So the 1st mod I did was a Divorced 3” dump pipe. All on the stock auto. It was fun for a while.

I later moved onto the interior and retrimed almost every panel on the interior, vinyl dyed the interior and turned all the cloth into cream pleather. Looks decent. I did everything but the dash board and the centre console. You’ll read a bit more about those 2 later.

As old cars do, the auto transmission decided to forget to shift gears on me. So I had to sometimes take of from 3rd, worst feeling in a turbo car. I decided at that point I’d look for a 1jz and prep it to go into the car. Couple of weeks later I found my 1jzgte with an attached r154 and all the bits with it. Stupid me decided I’d throw the r154 behind my 7m and continue with my trek of “teh Poo”. I bought an Os Giken twin plate and had myself a custom 1pce tail shaft made, it weighs 2/3 the weight of the stocker.

next went on the front mount and PVC piping, reps to MATTEH (wildsupra)

Later on the track, literally, it was time to find what my car would do down the quarter mile. 1st run was 15.1@101 mph 2nd was 14.3@103 mph.

I forgot one crucial thing….oil. my engine had been leaking oil for aaages and I didn’t check before I went to the strip. I had my car towed home with a killer case of rod knock. (waits for Tristan and Nigel to make comments).

After getting the car home I seriously thought about now putting the 1jz in. Until someone told me “HEY a 2jz isn’t that much more work than a 1jz”… yep….NOT. but hey hind sight is 20/20 but I don’t regret a thing.

So, I started trying to find the funds for my new project… the 7mgte was sold, and then I sold the 1jz…whoops… and off I went to go and find a 2jz. Yeh If it was only that easy. When I eventually managed to find one out of a guy who had rolled his aristo (jzs147), the block had actually cracked from the impact and was unusable. I kept the car and am still selling parts of it off, it sounds a lot easier than it was. Off I go to and find another. 1 month later I had in my hands another Aristo, half cut. This one was a lot better, it had 86k kms on it, certified. Sorry no photos of this one.

Out came the motor. Off came the auto. Turbos, intake manifold, and anything attached to the block and head. I checked all the bearings for abnormal wear or damage and replace all the rod bolts with ARP units. Turned the block over and replaced all the head bolts with ARP units also. This part is a lot harder than it sounds. The head bolt (10mm, 6 point star?) rounded off and I had to drill the bolt out buy slowly upsizing the size of the drill bit till the head popped. Once that happened I was able to screw the bolt out with my fingers.

Off came the stock valve springs and the valve stem seals, why go through all this work just to burn some more oil. In went new seals and my shiny new springs and retainers, 74 lb springs and Ti retainers.

Well, everything has all gotta go back together somehow…so the fun starts. You know how you get to that point where you just start throwing things on together so you can smile and grin at all the shiny parts you just spend you life's savings on ? well it took me a while to get over that phase.
