so i tested my bypass valve yesterday, and i can blow throgh both ends. so apparently im losing boost cuz of this broken valve. how much boost or how much power is lost through this? because i plan to replace it, i just wanna know how im important it is to figure out where it stands in my priorities. would anyone recommend i get a blow off valve instead? i wanna get one..and i'll admit..cuz it sounds really cool and is quite intimidating. should i get one? and would you recommend one? i was lookin at the XS Type RFL BOV on 935 motorsports and am leaning towards this, anyone know any cheaper BOVs that will fit me too?

i would say go with the Bosch BOV (part # 0 280 142 110), its cheap ($50-$65) and is a better than stock replacement, but if you want the sound, then i would say go with whichever you think sounds the best. i had the TXS RFL BOV on my old WRX and it sounded great. good luck. :biglaugh:

A broken ByPass Valve is just like having a boost leak. I would recommend the Bosch Valve as PDR said. You will have to get some new hoses to use this part as the inlet and outlet are bigger than the stock valve.

bosch bypass all the way. holds way more boost than alot of us will ever see, direct replacement as long as you have the hoses. and who cares about sound? it works right? but if you must have the sound, you can hear the bosch just fine with a cone filer on the intake.

It's a huge boost leak and power loss. Personally I like the HKS SSQV, but the whistle sound isn't for everyone. The RFL is nice and loud but the sound is plain IMO. Most of the aftermarket BOV's sound the same, just a generic whoosh but they vary in pitch and sound level. Low buck the Bosch BPV is a decent solution and certainly better then stock, but it will never sound as good or intimidating as a BOV IMO.

My friend has a RFL on his Starion. At 30psi it was louder than his open wastegate! Not a bad noise, sounds good, just LOUD
Personally I like the plain air woosh noise. My brother has a HKS SSQ and I hate it. The chirping whistle everywhere you go every shift ( he has a small turbo, always spooling ) Just remember, you gotta live with it!

The best BOV in the universe? http://www.jgstools.com/turbo/jgs340sb.html

Ok so thats a bit of an exageration, but I have the JGS wastegate and it is the highest quality wastegate I have ever seen.

FYI almost every aftermarket BOV can also function like a BPV and vent back into the intake if you desire. However BPV's cannot vent to atmosphere.

I just did my Bosch BOV mod and that thing is super silent at stock boost. I got the porsche spec one with the metal diaphram or something. At 3.5k rpm, i can hear air releasing very very fast and short crisp whoosh noise, but its very silent. You gotta listen for it. This is with an aftermarket air filter too.
Bosch is probably the safest/cheapest and most reliable way to go without any further tunning.

i figured a BOV can be used as a BPV. its just a hose thats disconnected. by the way, what do you do with the hole on the intake hose when the vaccuum line isnt pluged into it when your using a BOV..plug it up?
also, anyone recommend another BOV like this JGS 340 one where it makes it able to switch back and forth?

the hks can be made to recirc the air back into the intake tract you just need to buy an extra attachment and the hose to route the air back in...

yep, just plug it up with a rubber nipple of appropriate size and secure it with some zip ties or hose clamps.

Forge motorsport is another. I have no experince with Forge anything but have read good things about them.

Like the other guys mentioned, many BOVs can be fitted for recirc. If you are not sure if you want to vent or recirc, don't buy something that needs an extra fitting! Just more money spent either way you go in my opinion.
back in the WRX community, alot of guys were very pleased with the Forge BOV... one of the few that didnt make the WRX run lean between shifts.

well, its not that im not sure right now if i want a BOV or BPV, i just like the idea of having an option to easily change it, god forbid i get sick of the pshh sound down the road...who knows..but for now, i know i want a BOV.
