Am I crazy for wanting to buy a an AW11 MR2 to [strike]trash[/strike] drive spiritedly with a friend? We would most likely strip it down and throw on a cheap exhaust and suspension and go to town at a local rally track or autocross events.

I know a few around here have had experience with these tiny little mid-engined cars before so I'm asking for any advice from owners. I dont want to spend too much, but would like to have a little fun with some extra funds and an AW11 seems to be a good way to do this. :)

How do you like this old, ultra light, square box?

There isn't much to strip, leave it intact if you get one.

Learn how to drive it though as the handling can be a bit tricky at the edge...

Kyle (BigWangBandit) owns one and loves it. He's at least that tall, if not taller IIRC.

Kyle is taller than me but hes also skinny, because i dig food so much i have space problems in some small cars. I can fit into them but driving them for more than 5 minutes wouldnt be very good.

I can FIT into a s2k but after about 5 minutes i start to dislike it.

They are proof that you don't have to have power to have fun! I had an MR2 before the suprea, thought it was an MK2. I miss it, i would still have it if it wasn't wrecked. They are tricky though, not a good idea to mess around with it on the streets.

I have had many of them-great cars!!!! I really miss my blue 1986 Mr2. Best car I ever owned

The one above with the supercharger emblem is a JDM SC.

85s are the best handling hands down stock.

I have a mint 88 SC. I added an 89 rear swaybar,89 door handles,86 n/a cams, ported TB,K&N air filter,NST pulley, and a Grunt box. Runs 14.1 at 95 MPH on street radials. Fun fun car

Have one of these for a DD. Great lil car, cheap on gas, fun on the corners, it is tricky to drive at first though. Bought mine for dirt cheap. 4AGE is a fun motor too. Body on mine is really beat up and rusted, now im just driving it til it dies. lol

youll have a lot of fun with it. they are easy to work on as well but you have to get use to doing it a little differently.

I bought an 86 just before Christmas and immediately put it under the knife. lol

I want to make sure everything is up to par so, it has been two feet in the air on jack stands for about two weeks. lol Waiting on brake parts atm.
200k miles and it runs good with great oil pressure and compression. Not too much rust and a very clean interior, after I cleaned it of course. ;) Pics once it's on the ground.

I love those wedges. Hence the reason I bought one. Heres my 88 Supra and my 88 MR2

AW11's are so much fun to drive. Even stock suspension they tear up the turns. Even in rain I can't get it to let go easily.

Seriously don't strip the interior unless it's completely torn to hell. If you want you can actually sell interior parts quickly on MR2OC.com. Stuff is always selling in an instant on there. (i'm looking for interior parts too lol)
