Hey guys,

I'm currently considering buying another Supra.

It is a 1992 Toyota Supra Turbo automatic with sunroof. It is completely white, even the 5 spoke wheels. It has blue leather interior and heated seats. The body is straight and has no apparent damage. The only catch is the engine is seized, there are a couple of rust spots and scratches on the car, and the interior is absolutely dirty and grimy. Its dirty to the point that there seems to be fungus growth on the seat belts LOL. The guy has the car listed at $1,300 CAD.

Now, I have a perfectly fine 7M-GTE and R154 ready to drop in and any interior pieces I want to or need to replace. I went and took a look at it and took some pictures of the flaws. My question is: How much can I reasonably ask for this car? I think his list price of $1,300 is too ambitious, considering I got my 89 Turbo which was in awesome shape overall for only around $2,800. Please take a look at the pictures and give me your input.

Thanks Guys.

Rust spot on the left side headlight cover and drivers side front fender. I have replacement parts for both.

Some paint chips on the bumper. The bottom section where the grill is is slightly bent, probably due to hitting the curb when stall parking. Again got a perfect replacement piece.

Peeling paint on rear bumper.

streak of rust on the driver's side.

Drivers side rear quarter rust spots.

Rust spots around door handles.

Spare tire well had some water in it. Looks like the bottom started to rust.

All the leather seats look quite worn, but the driver's seat is the only one that has a true tear.

If you look closely you can see fungus on the seat belts.

I bent backwards and forwards looking for any other hints of rust. I checked visually underneath the car, the compartments in the hatch that lead to storage, wheel wells, and shock towers. All have no hints of rust.

The rust that is on the body of the car appears to be surface rust. There is no bubbling or anything, so I'm pretty sure a good sanding and repainting will do the trick.

First, be sure to read the quote below my name (PM me if you get it). Next, if you have plenty of replacement parts, it's a no-brainer. The rarity will always be a plus for a 92, there are not very many of them at all. That car doesn't look great, but it doesn't look that bad at all if you plan to paint it. Paint is another story though.....good paint is expensive! Cheap paint is not worth what you pay for it.

1k would be a fair price in my mind, as long as you're up to the task of restoring it properly. Never hurts to have a spare car full of good parts either. If I were buying it, I'd completely gut the thing, and go from there, full restoration. Always liked my 84's sunroof, and always liked the looks of the Mk3's that had them. :)

why does it have the '87 nose panel (rust)? that alone makes me question the honesty of the seller.

If you mean because of the headlight washers, I think Toyota kept them on the Canada cars after the 89 change. Or are you talking about something else?

Hey guys,

Thanks for your input. Due to unfortunate circumstances (don't have my parts car anymore) I didn't end up buying the car. I hate to see a car with potential just sitting there to rot. I must say, the engine bay of that car was in neat condition in comparison to the rest of the car. You wouldn't be able to tell anything was wrong with the motor just by looking at it (no oily areas, no mismatched parts or wiring etc.) I guess that means I have to say farewell to the forums for now since I am completely Supraless. : (
