I own a na auto supra. its developed a rather worying burning smell even after short distances of say 1 or 2 miles. im pretty sure its atf fluid. does anyone know off hand if the exhaust would catch drips of leaking atf? does it run close enough to the auto box? or should i be looking elsewhere?

would the auto box casing be hot enough to burn any leakage off after a short distance?

has anyone here had anything similar happen to them?

i see no fluid drips on the road when i move the car after it has stood overnight

If the rear trans seal is leaking it can mist onto the exhaust pipe. Also the cooling line connections are right above the exhaust pipe. Very possible for trans fluid to leak onto the exhaust.

Hard pipe in that area. The only flex lines are at the radiator. Be sure to get it checked out soon. Hot exhaust and trans fluid can make for a fire.

ok i had a look underneath and the area where the torque converter is was covered in quite wet fluid. guess its fresh stuff. im hoping it could be spillage from when i did a fluid change a few months ago. anyways i wiped it all off so ill see if it still stinks later on.

Mine leaked the same way a few years back.
I replaced the seal behind the torque convertor when I got a reconditioned tranny.
Added a bigger trans cooler and the burning smell disappeared all together.

Cheers,
