sorry for the dumb question but whats the buddy list for? what are the benifits?

Click on "Quick Links" in the upper right corner of the page. (Between search and logout)

Click on "Open Buddy List".

That will open a separate browser window that will show you the status of anyone you have added to your buddy list.

The window will auto refresh every so often so you can see who logs on and off.

For an example, here's what mine looks like (Not many people online this time of day..)

Yeah, that is so true. I usually try to test my websites with a large range of web browsers. Firefox, IE, Safari, Opera, Camino, links (text only browser), etc.

Firefox is what I use for every day purposes, though I use Safari a lot on my iBook.
