I just got an mkIII not three months ago and i've been having problems like that....bulbs that don't light up. So I checked the fuses and then checked the bulbs and everything was good.

So I checked the grounds and sure enough i have a few bad grounds. My map dome lights and rear center break light on my rear hatch all have bad grounds. I am trying to get a hold of a soldering gun so i can get these lights working.

i'm going through this too. if u fix ur grounds and the lights still dont work its ur tail light failure sensor. its the little yellow box that is rite under the left tail light. i called the dealer earlier today (cus autozone cant get it) and it only costs a cool 275$. so me and my dad temporarily fixed it by putting a metal wire (paper clip) into two if the wire connections(i dont remember the colors but i can find out if u want). the downside to this is the the tree light no longer works. this is only a temporary fix of course but its something to think about if u don't hav 300$ laying around, hahah. or u could see if someone is selling it on here......

It's a little yellow box (rear light failure module) below the left rear light housing. One of the fusible link probably burn or corroded circuit components. If neither one of the 2, the problem could be on the plug that plug into that yellow box. Try to wiggling it to see if the light work before opening it.
