Had the same thing happen here to the mountain bikers, only with their helmet. Helmet fractured in a line, squeezed up against his cheek, then snapped shut. Worse yet, all this happened while crashing on solid rock doing a good 30 mph downhill. Carrying the guy off the mountain with half the skin ripped off his face was ... difficult.

200+ stitches and a lot of healing time later, he's back out riding every week. He uses a tougher helmet now.

I broke one

Sent it back to Bell with the story attached and they replaced it free of charge!

I've broken 4 or 5 by now, but never had any damage make it through to my skull - although the wife might just disagree.
