Never mind the fact that 90% of AM pads squeel because their super long life warranties are achieved by using very high metalic content, which will burn up your rotors, but make the pads last forever..

2ner: did you put new rotors on as well?
if not, did you at least have your old ones machined?
unidirectional grooves in the rotor's surface can't help your situation.

Always re-surface, or replace the rotors with every brake job.

Also, we've been installing those 'ceramic' pads by Bendix, and I haven't had any customers complain of squeels.

By the way....an interesting article in 'MOTOR' magazine on brake noise....said..."brake squeels have always been a problem, and sometimes it takes alot of frustrating re-work to get rid of".

They come and go on various cars here because of the sand that blows and gets trapped between the pad and rotor. It can squeel until the sand particles get burned away with pad wear.

Yep. Seen an '06 Aveo with like 1100mi on it come through the shop and it sounded like it had no pads left at all...

Turns out, somehow, 2 pretty good size grains of sand... well, I dont want to say grains of sand because that's not an accurate description... they were more the size of like a half of a grain of rice.
They were embedded into one pad, about halfway in. No way they were coming out, and they were already doing some damage to the rotor.

Just make sure the mating surfaces are clean!

Bumping this for more info on this product: Permatex brake quiet. Is it safe to use and can it affect braking performance? I've got drilled & slotted brembo rotors and EBC green pads and all 4 of them squeal loudly under light braking. Thanks

I use some blue stuff, I think its a silicone cement, that's made by Permatex to bond the pads to the shims to the piston. Its probably the same stuff IJ is refering to. It stops vibration, which is the squeeling you hear.

You also should bed-in the pads. That's when you drive 50-60 mph, that's 80 to 100 KPH for you Canadians, and brake as hard as you can without engaging ABS or locking up until you almost come to a stop. You do this 3 or 4 times. Then let the brakes cool. Don't let the pads sit on the rotor if the rotor is not turning until the rotor and pads cool.

Edit:
As with all bonding, you have to clean all the surfaces that will be bonded. It make for some clean up when you change pads. But it stops the noise.

the permatex is only supposed to be sprayd on the back side of the pads. makes the backing plates sticky so they dont shift. and i agree with IJ, go find the shims and replace them.

take a small wire brush and clean all mounting points and use brake greease on the contact areas. lube the slides, and you should be squeak free for some time.
