Brakes making loud noise

Yesterday my brakes were making a ton of noise whenever I was using them. It wasn't just a normal squeak, it was a really loud high pitched noise whenever I touched the brakes that didn't go away until I released the brakes. What's the problem? When I got home I cleaned my rotos and calipers and wasn't sure how to check for anything else. I've never done a brake job before, and I'm wondering if this is the cause of a frozen caliper or worn down pads or what? The car won't be driven again till Monday but if I have time what should I check for?

they sell the dustless kind thats what i use and they are simple as hell to change take the bottom bolt lose from the caliper and wiggle it it should swing upward and remove the old pads press the cup back in and replace with new pads then reverse it all its fairly simple easiest ones ive ever done..

How long can I drive like this? So far I've driven about 15 minutes through town with them, but this was really bad timing and I'm wondering how long it is before they start doing any damage. The only thing I noticed was the annoying noise, is it ok for another maybe, hour? of driving?

Sounds like the pads are down to the wear clips.

It makes this noise to get your attention so you replace the pads before they kill the rotors.

happened to me... my pads were getting really low during summer and i didnt have time to take out of my work schedule to take the car to get them fixed. so the pads ended up killing the rotor and i had to get new ones all around :(

oh well.
