I've heard that the spring rating is related to how well your vacuum is, not boost pressure. I'm using HK$ so I wouldn't know. Maybe someone thats running a tial can verify this.

That's what I was told today as well.

I've got a TiAL!

If you're running 12-15psi, it should hav ethe high pitch "DOOF!"

I only hear flutter from what I believe 1 to 7psi or so.

It will just depend.

11psi Spring here.

Is the flutter compressor surge? Bad for the turbo? Or is that the actual sound the BOV makes?

Hard telling.

If it is a very distinct flutter sound that you literally hear from about where your turbo would be...then that's probably compressor surge. ;)

But at low psi, they will have a light flutter as they are.
The way the ports are designed and the overall way they are made, I believe that is just the way it is...

But as far as compressor surge goes, it's never a good thing...but sometimes it's hard to get away from it, nonetheless.

Every turbo & every BOV combination I've ever used, they've all had that light flutter at really low boost...:dunno:

Maybe Lamarossa will chime in.

:p

I think the Tial comes with the wrong spring installed for our engines, because I have never heard my Tial copy bov flutter even once, yet it opens even at 0 psi. I have been in several cars with the real Tial and there was deffinately a fluttering problem with the bov. If you get a 1/4" vacuum line right off the manifold it works purfect. I think the stock line is too small.

Everyone using a Tial, be it replica or the real deal needs the 11 lb spring because that's the spring calibrated for engines that pull over 20 hg/in (sp?), and a good running supra pulls like 21 ;). The spring does not determine how much boost you run, it's for keeping the valve closed when it's suppost to be.

^FTW.

Mine is a TiAL copy. :)

Like I said, it's not so much a compressor surge sound as it is a quick, high pitched chatter...sounds nothing like compressor surge.

I don't even have it mounted/welded like it's suppose to be ATM, I just half way rigged it up to work to test it before welding it on...and it still worked great.

Will - Just get the TiAL, Drive around pretending to be Ron R, and call it a day.
