BOV Problem?

Hello All,

This is my first time posting, and I had a question about my BOV. I recently bought and installed an HKS SSQV BOV, and when it purges, the sound is not loud AT ALL, I can barely hear it over the engine. I was wondering if anyone else has this BOV and can tell me whether the sound in not loud because I'm running at stock boost, or because there may be a leak in my intake system? Any input is greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

might be a leak, my friend's sounds pretty loud

Thank-you for the reply, I was afraid of that, but read that the rubber hose that goes from the turbo outlet to the intercooler tends to get fragile as it is constantly exposed to hot-cold-hot-cold conditions, due to its location, I should check it for cracking. Thanks again.

Correct vacuum to the BOV? Again, is it recirculated back into the accordian hose?

Thanks for the reply. I assume that I connected it correctly, I used the same vacuum hose that was connected to the stock BOV. It was difficult to tell as HKS only sent me the Japanese instructions, so I had to use the pictures and a little common-sense, but maybe i didn't connect it properly. I connected it from the vacuum line on the back of the BOV, to the vacuum line that runs just infront of the 3000 intake pipe. That might explain why HKS send like 1.5 feet of vacuum line, and I only used like 5 inches of it. Lol. Please let me know if it is wrong. Thanks again for the reply, I really appreciate it!

Put the little in-line air filter thingy that came with the BOV on the vacuum line. Also, follow the path of the vacuum line comming off the BOV to it's source on the intake manifold. It will switch from soft vacuum line hard pipe more than once on the way to the intake mani. Make sure all the soft vacuum lines aren't cracked, brittle, or broken/disconnected.

Thanks for the reply. I will do that right now, and hope it works. Thanks again for the info, and reply!

You will definetly hear an SSQV over your motor. In fact you may hear it over tractor trailer convoys, mortar blasts and the apocolypse.

They are also known to leak sometimes so make sure yours is not the actual BOV itself.

I have heard some tales of just about every major bov on the market having some troubles and knock off/2nd copycats that leak regardless of design. The only one I have never heard trouble with is Tial

make sure it is open when the car is idleing.

so by open, you mean pulling air in through the bov? (insted of through the AFM?)

shouldn't it be closed at all times? (except when venting boost)??

first of all if u are venting it into the air it will cause it to run rich when u let off the gas. if u are still using a afm u need to vent it back into the accordian hose just like the stock one. i use a mitsu diverter valve on mine and it is loud. so yours will be even louder. to check it to see if it is open when ideling just blow air into it. if u cant blow air into it it is closed . it will stay open when the motor has vaccum. it is made to open when u let off the gas to vent intake pressure

SUCCESS!!! Thank you all for your replies, and tips, I fixed it, and it sounds fantastic! Turns out that the hose that goes from the BOV vacuum to the intake manifold was BADLY crimped, therefore no vacuum to the BOV, I quickly replaced it and the sweet sound of purging! lol. Thanks again to everyone. Keep on Driving.
