Currently im running a Bosche bov and my car flutters alot with it on. This weekend I was hanging out with some buddies and they had an Apexi bov laying around so I put it on my car just for fun. No matter how high I rev the car in neutral the valve would never open, driving I could hear the bov open but it fluttered alot, obviously most was compressor surge. This bov was ran on my buddies 2G dsm for awhile with zero problems. I have the Ron R. boost gauge and it reads slightly under 15inhg. If im correct arent 7m's to run on atleast 17inhg? What could be causing this besides a possible vacuum leak?

try tapping vacuum at a different location, or using a different vacuum line. yours may be clogged or leaking. 17-20 inHg I think is normal. The only other thing it could possibly be is a torn diaphragm in the BOV, but if you tested the system with another bov, i guess that goes out the window..

I am running the same valve as you and mine always fluttered a little. I just thought that might be how they sounded. Well I just pulled my head off and in doing so I found that the vac. line going to the metal tube across the top of the engine was slightly kinked. I am hoping that whenever I put it back together it won’t flutter any more. Check all of your lines.

Check for carbon deposits in them AND in the metal tube, that could be what is causing the problem. Start with the basics first and rule them out as you go along. I'd say you've either got dry rotten vacuum hoses or carbon buildup in them pretty bad.

I used the smoke machine today at work, I hooked it up to several different points and there were no leaks. I used my boss's professional vacuum gauge and i got 18inhg, so that means my Ron R gauge is all messed up. I guess the next thing to do is source vacuum from somewhere else.

Considering he's in Reno at ~4500' MSL, 18 in/hg is pretty good ;)

Yea my boss said "18in/hg! What more can you ask for? Thats pretty good!" So I had to explain to him that my boost gauge is reading wrong.

I used to run an SSQV and that fluttered just the same as now.
