if i'm sitting there in neutral and rev the engine good and hard is there supposed to be any boost? B/c I don't see the boost gauge move, stays in the -4 even when I reve the crap out of it. would it have something to do with the automatic trans switch?

the stock 1J twins just spool really easy. lol. not much to it. ive seen my car go into boost before on the highway just from a small incline. no change in throttle.

I can build about 4psi. More than likely your stock gauge is a little slow and doesn't read it. Try an aftermarket boost gauge.

IJ I have visions of the movie American pie in my head... just shepherds pie instead of apple pie on the counter.

But yes you should be able to boost SOMETHING in neutral. Get a good boost gauge!

Ok, so my car isn't retarded then. I kinda have the feeling the Stock gauge is slow in the head though... Anyway to put a Autometer boost gauge in the stock location? b/c having 2 boost gauges is kinda ricer.

It's a bit of a chore retrofitting an autometer in the dash, a good alternative is utilizing an NA dash, and getting an oem voltmeter. (i'd swap the volt meter itself, not the whole assy.)
There's a good post on fitting guages in the stock location in the general section, just do a search for custom gauges.
