Has anyone ever replaced the stock boost gauge with an aftermarket gauge and it worked and looked as if it was from the factory? If you have would you mind helping this rookie out on how you did it. I really want to use the stock boost gauge placement if I can, and make it look as close to factory as possible with about a 20psi or more guage.

Thanks.

I wish I could find pics of one, but I have seen people put aftermarket boost gauges into the stock location. All you would have to do is take out the cluster and drill out a whole big enough to mount the new gauge and make sure that it is in deep enough so you can put it all back together. Then just wire it up and you should be set. I am going to keep looking for some pics so hopefuly I can show you what i am trying to explain.

i may be wrong, but i think that grim jack has done it. i could be wrong though. (hint hint calling grimjack!!!!) i know that it has been done, just make sure you buy the right size gauge and trim the hole out VERY carefully.

I know paddlenbike has done it. I think Grim might have done it too. Paddlen took a mechanical Apoex-i gauges guts/needle and i think he made a custom face.

Yes, I've done this, and Ron has as well. Ron's is closer to stock than mine, he printed a new gauge face to match the stock gauges, I just mounted a black face Autometer gauge in the stock location. In over 2 years, I've never had anyone notice that this gauge isn't stock unless I pointed it out first. :)

Here is a picture of mine.

OLD THREAD! Hey grimjack, I just bought almost that same gauge, I was wondering how you got it to fit in there...I tore my spare cluster apart and it just seems like there isn't going to be enough space depth wise...just wondering. Thanx

Not really - it's not rocket science, just pull out the old one, drill a hole in the back of the cluster, tear the new gauge out of it's cup, mount it in the cluster, and build up the area around the hole with a hot glue gun until it doesn't slide around. You'll need to paint some bits on the cluster black so they don't show through. That's really it.
