Hey I did search for info about doing a boost gauge install, but I couldnt really find any pics or anything. Is there a write-up or some good detailed instructions on how to completely install a boost gauge. I've read a bunch of posts on installs, but none are complete. Pics would really be the best for me right now as my car is like 2 hours away from me. So I just want to prepare and get everything together for when I go back home for the summer. If anybody's got anything, please let me know. Thank you!!

to run the vacuum line all you have to do is drill a hole in the firewall for the line to run through to get to the motor or find a existing hole near the pedals, i couldnt find one so i had to drill behind the gas pedal right near the steering column. and then you ground the black wire anywhere you like depending on where you mount the guage and the white wire the 12v source i spliced mine into my turbo timer.

here are some pics of my install in the attachment part.

you cant see the lines "teed" but as I said, the arrow points to where I "teed" into the line. Also if you see where the turbo pressure unit is, you can follow the line to where it is most convinent for you. (the line connects under the unit but is very visible)

I installed the gauges in a lowtek pillar pod so I ran the wires in the space between the dashboard and the body. Had to pull the wires trough using the stiff wires of the egt lines as a guide. it was fairly easy. I have yet to tap into some line for the lights but all I have to do is remove the little cluster of switches on the left of the steering wheel where the dimmer switch is and tap into the appropriate wires. (the insturctions that came with my boost gauge and egt require a constant 12volt signal when ignition is on and a 12v source for the lights when the dash lights are on. I know that there is what I require there, I only have to find them. I havent done this yet because my car is at the shop getting a rebuilt engine put in (if you couldnt tell :biglaugh: ))

I have also done a boost gauge in my friends 87t supra and we ran the line through the gauge cluster and installed the gauge hanging down form the dashboard. (that require alot of time, patience and alot of test fitting to make sure the holes didnt go through any electronics and all the holes lined up.) For the lights, I tapped into the little cigarette lighter light.

Hope this helps. Just remember dont kink the plastic line and leave yourself extra wire incase you ever need to to anything.

i tried to connect my gauge to the dimmer unit and got an unexpected effect....

as i dimm the console the boost gauge gets brighter and on the extreme bright where i usually keep it the boost gauge is 'off'

why is this, how do i fix it[it is on a constant 12v now]

I T'd my guage a little before the sending unit and mounted the guage right infront of the stock guage. I spliced mine into the light that mounts on top of the ashtray and it dims with the stock guages.. If you need any pics I can shoot you some..

Good luck!!

well i tried to splice into the dimmer itself and it dimmed opposite and then i sent for a power wire that feeds the lights on the dash B1 i believe on the center conector and it is all time 12V

i might run a little extra wire and go for the ashtray light[good tip ;)]

i T'd the Vline that runs from the mani to the fuel rail because the A`PEXi website told me to

could you post up those pics thanks

My boost gauge is on the pillar with a piller pod. lighting wire is connected to the wire at the radio that gets power when lights are on (no dimming).. I didnt like to drill any holes on the firewall.. so I ran the vacuum line through the fender into the engine bay.. i followed the wiring loom that goes that direction. You will need to remove the fender splash guard from the driver side wheelwell to get access..

I connected the vacuum to the sensing line to the pressure sensor. The same sensing line is used for the cruise control. So, when I have my cruise control ON, I see the boost gauge needle vibrate.. WTF?? dont know if thats good or bad..

nickel and dimed, how did you get the lowtek pod to color match?
