i picked these guys up at the junkyard today for like 6 bux. they are the same height as our's just round. what do you guys think? the cut off is decent. better than my h4 conversions.

WHY?

Why do people insist on trying to make the supra something its not? H4's in hella e-codes will do everything and more than you should need and give modern performace with next to zero modification to the factory system. If you want inspiration as to how it should be done look at Bluechulappa's build thread. Its no wonder you have shitty cutoff with those cheap ebay housings.

As far as I can see you are simply tying to fit a round peg in a square hole. The blocks I used to play with when I was 2 taught me this was pointless.

I dont mean this as a personal attack, but wtf are you thinking? I swear some people just dont know when to leave well enough alone or have WAY too much time on their hands. Seriously, even just putting factory glass halogens back in there would be better than those ebay things.

My home depot lip was a cosmetic mod and NOT a safety item, hardly comparable. If it was PURELY a cosmetic thing I would still offer up the opinion that its gonna look like ASS. No matter how you look at it, a round peg doesnt fit in a square hole.

i've seen hella ecodes. the cut off line is about the same as my ebay ones * pilot automotive housings. i've been wanting to go HIDs but u cant do that in e-codes without blinding everyone. trust me, i've researched. these bmw houses are also made by hella btw

Personally i've always said, don't knock it till you've seen the finished project. Were just talking headlights here. fairly simple thing to change. it's not like were talking about deleting brakes or removing seatbelts.

oh..... and his headlight thing is an aesthetic thing to btw... so long as they work thats all that matters with lights. how they look while they work makes it an appearance mod. :p

To me, the home depot lip and this BMW light project are both creative.

As long as it is done correctly (works like it should) and does not irritate other motorists, I'd say go for it and let the creativity begin.

Seeing how you got these off BMW and they seem to be OEM spec, I don't see any problem other than making it fit.

He asked for opinions, I gave mine. It wasnt a personal attack. I think his car is quite nice. The wingless look with the black body kit is very appealing. If he ends up making it look good, I'll eat my words, but I stand by my opinion. Hes got a whopping 12 bucks into it so far, so Im sure its worth cutting up his housings to "try" it.

The only headlight mod Ive ever seen on a mk3 that looks right is the pontiac grand prix lights with the small round hella or piaa next to it. At least then the rectangular light makes sense.

And if you think your ebay housings look ANYthing like a proper HID/e code conversion...I dont know what else to say.

EDIT: this is a properly done upgrade http://www.supramania.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1078763&postcount=302

heh we'll see how it goes. BTW $6 for both lights. so $6 in the project lol, and they came with silverstars :) . gotta love the yards around here. btw i did alot of research when i was looking for the h4 conversions. i've had and seen many diff ebay ones. each one is diff. the one thing i hate is hid's in any non projector housing. its not only stupid, but super dangerous. you have no idea how many times im driving with a asshat behind me with hid's in a non projector housing.

the opinion i need from you guys now is should i do a single beam, meaning no high beams. or should i put a set of driving lights next to them to be used as high beams? i can also design them using the single headlight beam and a motor to tilt them higher for highbeam. hmmmm deiscions

i think i'm just going to center the light. i did some research on the lights i got, supposedly they are highly sought after from the e30 guys. they are ellipisoids. here's a estimate picture. looks to be straight foward, just build a bracket and then build a surround plate to fill in the gap

Too much dead space? I think you should stay square or rectangular for your lights...

i agree with you about the dead space, but think about it... u never cruise with ur headlights popped up for no reason. and at night who really sees what shape ur light is. they just see how good the output is. the dead space sucks but it could be worse. i was thinking of shifting the light over to the side and shoving maybe a 2" driving light or fog light there to use as space filler/ high beams. i could hack up my set of h4 housings and just put the whole light into the housing lol btw i cant just take the projector out of these. its not that simple
