Hi guys. I turned up my boost to mabye 9-10 lbs and i think my plugs are blowing out. I had them gapped at .028". What am i doing wrong here? Also, my head is making this ticking noise. Its not the injectors. When i put in my head one of the threads of the bolts on the cam journals had stipped so i put it in loosely. how would my car run without only one cam journal? thanks

they are both the same so it dosnt matter.

if i were you id take out the cams from the head youre using and inspect the journals. it might still be good.

Are the bearing cap saddles scored? The journals almost always look bad because they has a soft babbit-like coating that scores easily. The saddles should be absolutely perfect though.

If you stripped one of the threads for the bearing caps then that head is done. I do not believe it is possible to helicoil due to the pressed in guide surrounding each bearing cap thread. The cam caps must be torqued no more than 14 ft-lbs as the threads are in aluminum and the bolts aren't very long.

Back in the day when I worked on my celica I cross threaded one of my cam bearing bolts and sheared off the head bolt completely. What I ended up doing was just rethreading and it held up fine for 3 years until I blew the headgasket on it. haha.

Get some NGK 2330's gap them to 0.28 and a new set of NGK wires call it a day. If thats does not solve your issue go down the list ..... timing, check coil packs and everything else in the ignition system.
