So i was driving and then stopped and my hood started smoking i checked it out and the plastic top part on the radiator busted open and i lost all my antifreeze. I am looking to buy a new one but i dont wanna get it and it happen again. Im pretty sure my fan was working. Did it happen just cause it was old, i think it was original.

Yup. The stock plastic cap radiators are old and brittle. It is now time for you to upgrade to a radiator that has metal top and bottom caps. You won't want to put another plastic one in there. That's for sure! :D

Fluidyne, Koyo, and SWR are the popular ones.

And yes, the stock fan setup is adequate. The electric fan kit has it's benefits; but, is pricey and since you hinted that you're on a tight budget (just like the rest of us :D) I would pass on for now.

Electric fans offer no real benefit...

Also, do a compression test on the engine to make sure you didn't blow the headgasket from losing all your cooling so fast.

If you're just looking for a stock radiator, I have a brand new radiator (all metal Modine brass) radiator for sale. :) PM me if you are interested.
