Sounds like you're running rich, most mkIII's seem to do this naturally, mine does. Is this car all stock, no aftermarket fpr or other mods?

boost leak. check the 3000pipe to throttle body coupler, it is usually cracked. thats where my leak was from. needless to say i was shooting flames unintentionally sometimes :D

My car leaves streaks of black smoke when doing interstate pulls.

I don't have a boost leak. :D

Seriously though, If you are basically stock and are seeing black smoke, you are running really rich. As said above, running rich means too much fuel or not enough air. In your case, you probably have a boost leak (air), therefore there is not as much air, meaning more fuel = rich = black smoke! :)

Make a boost leak tester. Makes things much easier and quicker to find.

I had a black smoke problem, and I checked around, and couldn't find any leaks in the lower IC pipes...turns out, it was this coupler. Replace it with silicone and you'll be good to go!

When driving does your car feel any different? Laggy? Hesitates etc.?
If so, thats another good indication of a boost leak
