Big vacuum leak after Catch Can Install

So I installed my Catch Can today on my N/A, which before I did, I made sure every connection was perfectly tight and used teflon tape on the screws.

After driving of about 2 miles my car started idling really high 1500-2000, and I pulled over re-routed the hoses back to the stock setting and it was back to a 800rpm idle.

A friend of mine had said the sight glasses on these catch can's can cause major vacuum leaks. I ordered my catch can from driftmotion, the generic one they have there, so any feedback using those or others would be great.

How was it hooked up?

I mounted it on the same bracket as the charcoal canister. I reversed the T at the PCV to TB and ran a single hose to the inlet of the catch can. I then ran a hose from the outlet of the catch can to the TB.

on my n/a i had the catch can hooked up the same way and i had no problems. although it wasnt a DM catch can, it was a 'freddy' one with the sight thing, and it never leaked i dont think. my car idled at 800rpm all day.

double check that you have all of the bolts tight and the hoses are clear (not gunked up)

I just bought all new hoses so they are fresh, I am still using the stock crappy clamps that go on the PCV T however and those things suck. I noticed that oil was leaking from beneath one of the connections on the T. Looks as if I just need to go grab some worm clamps and get rid of that silly sight glass and it should be fresh.

will do. i put it back to stock and my idle is 400-600 rpm loping and a loss of power before 3500-4000 rpm.

One of the heater hoses i bought may be a source of leaking as i heard a hissing noise comming from the pcv nipple on the TB.

Q: what size heater hose did you use? i am trying 7/16" since autozone is retarded and didn't have 1/2".

i'm using 3/8 fuel/emission hose with worm clamps. to make a T that's not 10 lbs of brass (hardware store didn't have barbed brass Ts), i used a copper T with a few lengths of copper tube sweated onto it to give the hose clamp more to grip. haven't installed yet.

Ok I just got back from the doctors office and hooked the catch can back up.

I found out where the hissing noise came from which was the two vacuum lines that go into the pcv valve were disconnected. However, after reconnecting them, and reconnecting the catch can, I still have terrible performance. My RPM's are soaring above 2000 at idle which is kinda scary and I dont want to trust this thing.

I have been looking at various threads on catch can installs but they are all for turbo cars with turbo inlet pipes. When I purchased my car the accordian hose had a vacuum nipple on it and when I replaced the accordian hose for a hard pipe I T'd the vacuum line into another source of vacuum. By my logic the catch can should be installed properly as well as the lines based on the turbo ones where there is a pcv source of vacuum on the turbo inlet pipe, but there is not one on the N/A accordian hose.

I tried to take a picture but it failed (cameraphone) heres a splendid drawing for you Jdub.

I've bought that catch can from DM and thing was leaking all over the place. I had to open every freaking seal and reseal it. The fittings also leaked and i had to treat the thread with silicone. I love what Aaron is doing and every product i bought from him was superb, wouldn't buy anything from anyone else, but this catch can is a lot of headache, i wish i invested a little more now. Thats is if i assume right and the catch can has to be 100% sealed to produce vacuum.

thats exactly how mine was set up.

I think the catch can is faulty, cheap construction, the rubber o-rings that go on the interchangeable nozzles squish out of place, and the interchangeable nozzles dont tighten fully. once i put the hose on there and clamp it down they start moving all over the place. it looks like i'm going to have my friend weld the nozzles on there and then weld the holes shut for the sight glass to get this thing to hold vacuum.

Yes this thing is a headache and I know exactly what youre saying, none of the nozzles stay in place. The silicone may be a good idea I may try that before I end up welding the thing shut. I'm pretty sure it has to be 100% sealed to produce perfect vacuum

Thanks for the pic...just making sure the routing was correct. It is ;)
(The PCV seems to be one of the most screwed up when a catch can gets involved)

I think you figured out the problem...pirate air via the can itself.

why do these type threads always show up right after I send payment for something?I'm glad it is not here yet. Now I will know what I have to do before I install it. I believe I have an extra N/A "T-Pipe" if anybody needs one.
