Hello Supra Fam!
So I recently bought a 1987 Supra Turbo with 133,000 miles on it. My plan is to change out the head gasket, get the head cleaned, machined, and put in a new OEM one with ARP Studs torqued at 85lbs. Also I will be changing out the valve stem seals with Viton seals I received with my Ishino Gasket set. All gaskets will be replaced on the way as well. Prior to attacking the head gasket, there was nothing wrong with the car, no knocks, leaks, (besides the power steering), or anything major. So my question is, will this mini rebuild last? I could tell the car was taken care of, and according to the previous owner it's been stock its whole life. I'm just worried that I'll invest all this money on something that'll quickly fail. I mean I'd be happy to get another 10k miles out of the engine. There will be a break in period after the new gasket is installed as well.
The car will remain stock once finished with the job, and after I plan on doing minimal mods like, intake, DP, exhaust and nothing more!
So should I go for it, or save up money to eventually (meaning a very very very long time) rebuild the block as well?
My sister's 98 Civic has almost 200k on the engine and it runs better than my mom's 2001 4runner besides a few clunks due to bad rear shocks. I don't know if a Civic is a good comparison with this car in any way but I just wanted to put it out there.
Thanks in advance and please be BLUNT!
