the test pipe, or race pipe, as you call it, will make it sound as if you've disconnected your catback exhaust. if you want to hear what it sounds like, remove your cat, and push you exhaust aside, start your car, and listen.

running an open dp sounds like shit, not to mention it will backfire on you and if it backfires hard it will damange your exhaust valves, run 3 inch from turbo no cats into just a decent high flow muffler and it will sound nice

Porterz..... Where do you get this theory of damaging the exhaust valves from running an open DP on a turbo car? I don't think that is entirely accurate.

Anyhow, I rode my car around for 7 months with an open BIC DDP all the time. I had no exhaust. I never got a ticket, never even got bitched at about it. It sounded pretty good just putting around town. It was just really damn loud at WOT and full boost.

seriously, though, open downpipe sounds awesome! and it does NOT damage anything... i'm not exactly sure where that information came from, but i'm not about to try to find out, either. ignorance is bliss.

its not good for a motor to backfire violently, in a NA it will danmage the exhaust valves I dunno about a turbo but its never a good thing!

hmm. my car doesnt backfire running open downpipe. perhaps you have other issues you need to follow up on.

infact, my car sounds georgeous, and doesnt miss a beat with open DP. boosting, cruising, idling are all nice and smooth.

back when i sleeved the cat on my N/A motor, i ran around for a day or so with the exhaust not hooked up. (open exhaust) the N/A motor didnt backfire either... though, i didnt exactly like the sound of it.

I agree with Shaeff! It sounds beautiful. If I could, I'd run 4" pipe straight to the back of the car and keep it as straight as possible.
Unfortunately i can't.

No...never had that one. But I did have a jet motor compressor stall...shot a fireball out both ends of the engine. Felt like somebody hit my seat with a sledge hammer! Talk about scaring the crap out of you...LOL

Yeah, that's way this feels too...you can feel it through you whole body. And the fireball is about 3-4 times the size of a Supra...gotta clean your shorts out afterward! LOL

Yes. I get that shotgun backfire "occaisionally" when under a lot of boost in 1st gear and then let off quickly. When I run open DP, I hardly ever backfire...but gawwwwd does it sound sweet. I LOVE the look on big trucker guy's faces when I come up beside them, they look over as if they heard a Dodge Cummins Turbo Diesel hehe

Ive got the BIC Race Testpipe. I open it up on the strip and on occasion on the street just for fun. I think its too loud, but it does sound pretty badass. Ive got some vids, I'll post em up eventually.

i was like uhhhh.....:3d_frown:...

i think he was just scared cause it sounded mean
