Hey all you supra lovers, my '87 N/A blew a head gasket back in july, so i just finished up putting a new headgasket in and when i went to start it up it cranked over just fine but would not start (keeping in mind the car ran just fine before i took it apart). it seemed like it BARELY wanted to but nothing. i checked for spark and it was good, i checked the fuel pump thru the diag. port and i could hear it whining, i even cracked the fuel line in 2 spots on the rail and fuel was dripping out so i dont think its a fuel issue. i also double checked my timing belt to make sure it was on, the only thing i didnt check for timing was the distributor's rotor position which i may check tonight. next i used a noid light on the injector to see if it was pulsing and it was not, i checked 3 injectors that u can easily access and nothing, so i hooked up a simple test light and check for power at the injector plugs, i found that the test light lit up when i touch both wires on the plugs, i thought that one was power and the other was ground that went to the ECU, so that threw me off a bit, any info on that would be appreciated too... from there i checked all the fuses related to the EFI system (AM1, AM2, 15A EFI, 7.5 IGN) i also check the main relay and when i hooked a jumper wire to it i could hear it click on and off.

my thoughts on this is that the injectors are not getting a signal or something within the system is not properly grounded. i checked the ground wires on the intake manifold above the starter, there were 5 wires (i believe a few were white w/ red stripes, and the other few were brown) i used a DVOM and checked resistance from the grounds to the battery and theres was very little. i also made sure no connectors were bent going to the MAF, Distributor and injectors. i check the ohm readings on the distributor plug terminals, like the haynes manual shows (between terminals G1+ and G-, G2 and G-, and Ne+ and G-) all had readings so i figured it was ok..

any ideas? is there anywhere else i can check, or double check my work? where does the injectors get its signal from? i dont believe the N/A 7m's had any CPS. where are the rest of the grounds for the ECU?

by the way all i did differently when finishing the job was rerouting the vac lines because they were all screwed up from the previous owner.. what a jackass.. i got a diagram from my work off mitchell and from the haynes manual and got them all figured out, except for the haynes had NOTHING in it about the cruise control??? which i found ridiculous as hell, so i just went with what i felt was right. and i had no "VTV" or "airfilter" hooked up off the vac line from my DP diaphragm, but i dont think that has to do with my issue, just giving all the info i got. that same jackass of a previous owner must have lost those along the way lol.

??????????????????????????????
thanks for all the help i need to get this peice back on the road :)

7M-GE has no resistor pack for the injectors, since it uses high impedance injectors. I had to install one on my NA-GTE conversion. The Haynes manual isn't keeping the info straight between the turbo and NA models.

Go to the on-line TSRM, it will be a much better resource for you, including good troubleshooting for this issue.

i agree, the haynes manual is kind of BS. i did happen to see the injector resistor pack by the strut tower tho.. im pretty sure thats what it was. i read on the celica supra website that early GE's use low impedence injectors and a resistor pack, not sure myself but just the info i collected while doing my research
--> http://www.celicasupra.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-34909.htm l<-- this is the link if you care to take a look.

anyways i figured out my issue, the distributor was not exactly timed up with the cams causing my no start.. which still leaves me to wonder why the noid light wasnt flashing when i had it hooked up to the injectors, i figured it would still pulse even with the distributor out of time. anyways im happy it was a simple fix! thanks for the help anyways, always much appreciated!

FYI, there are 2 very similar looking resistors. One is for the fuel pump, and it's on the right side tower. Both GE and GTE will have that one. The other is on the left tower, and is for the injectors. The heat sinks look the same, but the GE car will not have the second one. The mounting bracket also holds the boost pressure sensor for the stock boost gauge. It is near the cruise control vacuum pump for when the car is in positive manifold pressure in order to keep the cruise control engaged. (I don't have either of these pieces in my car. I don't have the stock boost gauge, and my cruise control cannot make the car go into boost.)
