Hello , I am getting stocked up on parts for a BHG repair on my car . So far I have gotten.
Arp bolts
8.5 mm plug wires
waiting to get MHG till I find out how much material was shaved off already have store credit at HPF because I cancelled my order before the MHG was shipped

I plan on getting a new timing belt , inspect the assoc. timing parts for wear and replace as needed . Most likely get a new cam gears as well and get a p&p done on the head .
Now what I need from you all is any thing I am missing . things that you forgot and had to scramble to get to finish the job. Just trying to make this as painless as possiable (sp?)

Thank You for all you help

cheap insurance on the thermostat, as for the coolant hoses I was refering more to the ones in the rear that are harder to get at with everything together.

for the gaskets just go to CarQuest, oreillys, or autozone(or whatever you prefer) and price them individually (as kits) dont get the big kit b/c it comes with a hg and its like 300 compared to 120 if priced individually for what you need

have the block lapped (extra extra smooth) and just go for the hks 2.0mm mhg youll luv it and have the valves checked or just get a valve job done while its getting p&p and if the machinist can have him adjust or replace all the pucks for the valve springs

and have the turbo and intake mani and on the head surfaced too if you want so nothing will be warped (had the turbo mani warp on me once)

trev

I am not sure that I follow you Nate which ones are those? I am sure I will see them when the head is off. I am thinking of getting in on the group buy for the BC 264 cams . This BHG job is quickly becoming a major build up . But what the hell sooner or later I am going to have to set a boundry and not go any more then that . Do you know the kid up here in M.V. with the mid 12 sec Evo? I really want to get closer to beating him or at least get to the point where the car is fast not just quick

I really don't have a budget. It's more of a time thing I am driving my dead father in laws pick up for the time being. We are heading into the peak delivering season so I am going to be very busy until after christmas . So I guess I can afford to build it up pretty much until I get tired of the truck . As far as working on it that was going to be my next question I recently had the motor swapped and the shop that did it did a great job . They are 300+ miles away and I cannot justify that trip again so .....I don't know

This is what you will eventually be looking at,
picture007uf5.jpg

see anything you've never seen before?

you got the main things,

mhg
timing belt
arp's
and a gasket kit.

from what i had to do i suggest
rear coolant hose
front coolant hose
thermostat
use every gasket you can from the kit
a felpro gasket kit should come with valve stem seals, you have them, the head is off, i suggest you do it now rather than later when its a total pain in the ass.
measure your valve shims now that you can.
you will see you injectors in that picture, the rubber gromets are probably hard as lifesavers by now, changem.
for about $75 you can get a hose techniques vacuum line kit, now is the perfect time to redo every vacume line and trust me, its worth the $.
and if you have some $ left, every semi crackled hose you can find should be replaced to avoid a kick in the nuts later, the throttle body-intake manifold coupler comes to mind, or the oil return hose from the valve cover to block behind the alternator.

take pictures and take a really good look at your pistons and cylinder walls so you know how far you really want to go on this block.

that should get you set to go.
i say do it yourself, take you time, its the best way to make sure it was done right and you will learn alot more than you expected to, we are here to make sure you finish.
