None of your fucking business
I have 87000mi with the origianl head gasket. If I were to put a MHG in what kind of block work would need to be done? Tons of you guys have MHGs, are all of you guys saying you had your motors pulled and milled flat or what ever the process? Seems as though any warpage would be in the head. If I replace the gasket before it blows, will I avoid machining costs? Let me know, I don't a BHG to ruin my day, I want to stop it before it happens. thanks

There is three routes to take:
  • Cometic MHG, surface the head, clean the block & assemble
  • 'other' MHG (greddy, HKS). Surface head, lap the block & assemble
  • 'other' MHG (greddy, HKS) Surface the head, file the block, check block with a machinist straight edge, repeat, use copper spray & assemble.
Many will argue that the third option is a mistake, but this is the route I took & I've been running 15PSI daily with absolutely no worries from me. If I had to do it again though, I would choose a Cometic MHG.

Please note the constant though, surface the head.

^^^ i went with option #3 and a hks hg. if i were to do it all over again i would put in the stocker and torque that bitch down tight with arp's. better chance of sealing and if your not running lots of boost it's fine. other than that the cometic is upposed to be able to seal better.

This is what I have done. ARP bolts on the OEM (new, not the original one) head gasket at 100 foot pounds. Been holding fine for nearly two years now.

I guess that I should have mentioned that ARP bolts or studs are pretty much manditory for the 'final solution'. :squint:
