Best tools thread?

I don't remember if this was pre-hack or not, but wasn't there a thread titled "best tools," or "what's in your toolbox" around here? I've searched here and sf, and I can't seem to find anything about tools. I know there's a few of them...

If anybody knows a link, please kindly point me in the right direction, or we can make this into a best tools thread.

I'm looking to buy new tools to work on something, and I just want teh best ones that are out. I've heard mixed feelings about a lot of different brands. So, what do you guys use?

Thanks guys! :)

first of what does ftw mean?

now then, in england snap on tools are a hefty price. really expensive so id imagine limited to pro mechanics. wish i had some though.

theres a company in england called halfords and they do a profesional tool set range with lifetime warranty and are a lot cheaper but apparently just as good. perhaps ill buy a set from them one day.

iirc a profesional socket set comprising 1/4" 3/8" and 1/2" sockets plus ratchets etc is about £150

i hear alot of high end stuff. 99.9% of my stuff is craftsman. love it, no issues. i have one 3/8 snap-on ratchet that is very very old(was my grandads). and i my torque wrench is a K-D 25-250ft/lbs clicker with a ratcheting head, i like everything about that except for the rubber/plastic handle. i think the snap-on torque wrenched are just amazing and the S-K ones are real nice too. but thats me, an amature weekend mechanic so i dont always need the best of the best.

however if someone could recomend a company who make a good set of ratcheting box end wrenches thatd be nice. i'm in the market and teh craftsman ones are what i'm looking for but the set is incompleat(no 14mm or 17mm). one of the techs i work with has the snap-on ones but he says that it takes to much motion to make them click and he never usues them. thanks.

Cost me 20K AUD to build it using a brand new Bridgeport Clone as the base then adding the CNC Controls and hardware :)!
(Couldn't justify 75K for a 3 Ton VMC for home use)

Nate: :icon_razz that is all! <jk>

Sorry IJ, I just hate people that are more fortunate than me :biglaugh: It's beautiful and I wish you lived next to me.

For tools, I use Powerbuilt tools from Schucks/Kragen.

Here is my latest set of tools I picked up
http://mactools.com/home.aspx?pagename=products

The picture of the motor cycle engine isn't my style but it was still a great buy. $650 for everything and since I bought it off the truck at work I get a lifetime warranty instead of the regular 3 year. I will try to get a close up pic of the tools tomorrow while I am at work. Seems like high quality stuff and I have been giving the tools hell just to see if the will stand up. Oh yeah since I don't like the picture of the motor cycle engine on the front of the box I am going to have a picture of my Supra enlarged on a magnet and put it on front.
