Hey guys, soon I should be picking up some guages/wideband/hook up my TT's boost line. I was wondering if you guys had any best method to get wiring or vacuum line for a mechanical boost line through the firewall into the cabin. Thanks!

BTW, sry if this is a newb mechanic question... but I'm just inexperienced and want to know any precautionary measures before I go do something. :greddy:

i ran my signal line near the steering column. just kinda to the right of it. now i have a hole in my firewall, it there anything i could plug the hole with temporaraly so that later i can run something else through the same hole? like puddy, play dough?

first off i would paint the exposed metal in the inside of the hole you just made to discourage rust formation. also whatever lines you run through there make sure you use a grommet, otherwise expect some trouble with short circuts, vacuum leaks, etc after a few miles.

you can run it through the firewall by the ecu where the engine harness runs through the firewall behind the glove box. thats where my boost controller runs and was pretty easy to do also

that way is good but not really practical for a boost gauge thats gonna be mounted on the A pillar.

dont worry about water in between the clutch and brake master cylinders. there souldnt ever be water splashing around there....and if it is you have other problems (like being trapped in a flash flood)

oh i still say paint it to keep rust from forming from humidity and such.

i drilled a holeover by the clutch resivoir came out pretty nice high enough where no water would ever get in and high up and out of the way in the drivers side floor board.i ran my vacum line egt wires and 2 guage battrey wire through it.

yea you right that would add a lot of length to the hose, wasnt really thinking about that. not the best route for the boost gauge i guess. for the guy asking about the ebc that is perfect for that, just run the line down the fender right to the turbo.

This is the hole in the center of the car, behind the center console right? I have an '87, and my car has a rubber garment to seal that hole from the factory. This is where I ran the cables for my boost and EGT gauges. For my boost controller, I ran the the cables for the solenoid through the hole for the wiring harness.

You must always use a grommet and i cut one down below the brake booster area and clutch petal. After you get the wires threaded thru the grommet and all installed you can just put some black silicone in the hole to cap it off to keep moisture and noise out.
