Hi everyone,

I just got a 89 7m-gte. The exhaust (damn it to hell!!) is a straight pipe! I want to get something A LOT quieter. I never really cared for loud exhausts... so I'd like to find something that's quiet and functions.

I was quoted about $300 for custom piping w/ generic muffler. I'll probably end up w/ just that piping but would like a nice sound, on the quieter side, exhaust. I like deep tones... I HATE how the g35/z sound (Yes yes... I know many people love it...). Everything else (engine-wise) is +/- stock.

I also have a few other things I need to swap out, but this is the main annoyance.

Many thanks,
Jeff :icon_bigg

why dont you just get a muffler welded into place? Well maybe I should ask, is the piping diameter of the pipes in place larger than stock? If it is 3" or more you would roughly gain the same amt of power as getting any other aftermarket system and quiet the system down with just placing a muffler on the car, such as a hks, etc. If it still too loud you could always just get a resonator added to the piping and that will definitely quiet the car down and rid it of most, if any, raspiness that your currently experiencing.

935 has a good DIY kit. You can get it with or without a muffler so you can choose your own. Only problem is it needs to be welded up, hence the "DIY". I'm getting mine welded up this week and despite the 3" diameter, it should look fairly stock.

I may end up w/ the Tanabe Medallion. Tom @ HPFREAKS said that it's the best solution for the quietness I'd prefer while not totally restricting the turbo. I'll be putting in my order today so I can hopefully get it by week's end... It's quite embarrassing driving around and hearing alarms chirping at me (lol)...

Thanks guys!

I have the Tanabe, a TMS high flow cat, and a BIC DP and it's very quite till about the aforementioned 3500rpm. Sounds stock, and the gains are incredible. It's perfect IMO.

I'll have the same set up (OEM downpipe for now). I don't want to drop too much at once =P

Thanks again guys! HPFreaks.com was great in assisting me with the decision (needs vs pure profit hahaha).

Thanks,
Jeff
