I was wondering what your guys' opinion on this is..
I ordered a set of Crossdrilled/slotted rotors for my Supra, as my OEM rotors are warped and have grooves in them.

SO i'd like to know what the best type/brand of pad would be to go with it..
Organic? Metallic? Semi-metallic?

Which one would last the longest, but still provide enough bite to stop my heavy beast.. lol

I dont really care if they squeal.. as long as its not crazy loud like it is right now (almost down to the metal)

I have metallic, but then again i just have the oem rotors which arent cross/slotted. I have minimal squeal, and they are from autozone, they work fine for me when stopping my car, they produce not a lot but noticeable dust, and they seem to be working fine with the oem rotors, and about the squeal a lot of people hate that, i did too till a ferrari stopped next to me at a light and his brakes squealed a lot. so i was like hell if a ferrari can squeal im aloud to. well there u go.

i'm running metal masters all around. no squeel, low dust. stop like oem pads when cool but wen they are warm they bite pretty good. good street/auto-x pad. althought my friend in was running the same pads in his '98 gsx, he went to the track and they couldnt really stand up to the abuse of 40mins of all out road racing.

I'll be sticking with Porterfield until i'm able to go to a big brake kit. Even then, i'll try and find Porterfield pads. I can't say enough good things about them.

I've heard from a guy at work who makes cryo brake rotors and then packages them with brake pads that he likes Porterfield carbon/kevlar pads the best. He's tried other pads including the new ceramic pads and he says so far the carbon/kevlar are the best. The ceramic pads are suppose to last almost forever, and leave very little dust. But they don't modulate correctly or as expected. Porterfield will make any brake pad you want with what ever material they use. I just got a set of pads custom made with their Carbon/Kevlar material for my VW. Nobody makes performance brake pads for new VW Passats. It cost about $120 for the front and about $60 for the rear.

You will need to "bed-in" the brake pads and rotors. This is a process where you get the vehicle up to about 60 mph and nail the brakes until it almost locks up or just before the anti lock system engages. You slow down but don't stop. You do this about 6 times in a row. This process deposits an even layer of the brake pad material on the rotor face. Then let the brakes cool before driving and braking as normal.
Somewhere on this site there's a good post on brakes.

If anyone needs a set of Porterfield pads and they are not available, all you have to do is call Porterfield and request them to make a set up custom.

If anyone needs their rotors cyro'd, I'll hook you up with this guy at work. He also makes rotors for cryo if you don't have them. He only uses slotted rotors, since the drilled ones don't really function on a street vehicle as intended and they are more prone to cracking under extreme heat.

I absolutely hate the brake dust my STILLEN brake pads make ( metallic)....I got them free with the Brembo rotor kit I ordered from them a while back.

Though I only have the fronts on right now ( they sent me the wrong rear rotors)...the fronts are a huge improvement, I also run the ebay SS brake lines in the front ( rears arent on yet either.)

They stop excellent...but the dust is horrible I am going with EBC or Endless next.

Siman,
The ceramic pads are suppose to be almost dustless. But they have a different brake pedal feel to them. They're suppose to be high friction too. But don't quote me on it.

The carbon composition pads are better than the metal pads in performance. But I've heard they are make more noise and could be objectionable to some. I've also heard from TRD that the carbon pads have a lot of dust, but may be that's the TRD ones because no one that uses them seem to complain about the dust.

Yes, I am going with ceramic next. The metallic just dusts EVERYWHERE. I am very unhappy with them just for that fact....my brothers EBC's probably stop BETTER and they have virtually no brake dust.....weird

Carbon pads are generally ment for high speed high heat uses...on a day to day basis driving...you will NOT get the full potential out of a CARBON pad....since carbon "sticks" better at higher heat loads...and pretty much is slick at low heat so you would essentially be pressing harder on the pedal to stop.

Carbon pads should only be used on race applications...they are NOT for street use.

.....I read that at a Holiday Inn last night.....

Racing brake application uses a completely different theory.
I have seen test results that say the carbon pads don't stop as good as organic. But I'm wondering if they properly broke in the pads and rotors. Because the guy that made me a set of rotors and pads also did some tests on carbon pads and it stopped up to 20% better than organic. He bedded in the brakes before performing the test. But than again he's using cyro'd rotors.
Street braking uses adhesive friction between the pad face and the pad deposits on the rotor face. Although I've never used them, I am told carbon/kevlar composition has good adhesive friction. Better than organic.
I have used metal pads and they don't grip as good as organic pads when cold. But when hot they will out perform the organic pads.

I think i'm gonna go with the VGX metallic pads i had on my talon with CD/SL rotors..
Either that or organic pads if i can find them for a good price.

Well, I've got a set of Porterfield custom carbon/kevlar for my wife's Passat. When I put them on I'll let everyone know how they feel and perform. My wife's Passat goes through rear brakes every 10K mi and fronts every 20k mi. I've changed the rear pads every year and the front every 1.5 years. So I'm going with carbon/kevlar as recommended by this guy at work.

Any one have any links to these porterfield pads?

Also, has any one tried the EBC green stuff or Hawk pads?

Im looking for a pad that actually squeels (carbon) and has good "initial bite" and won't fade away under heavy braking.
