I want to keep it around the 500-550hp range, nothing more, fast spool.

Should I go with 64 or 67mm?

I don't really want to spend more then $1000, if I can spend less for a quality turbo, even better.

Any suggestions?

What you're asking for is only going to be found from an individual seller who wants to sell quick. The standard rule applies: Fast, Cheap, Reliable...you get to pick two ;)

The T04Z or GT35R will meet your goals, but neither is under $1000...they do however meet the other two criteria.

67 That will be hard to get 5-550 out of it on pumpgas though. I recommend a 71+

how much power are you meaning currently with the 61?

Boss turbo, although they used ITS core's and ITS is out of business so I don't know who they use now...

500 on pump i'd recommend a 67, and it still will barely make 500 if it does. I recommend 61MM turbo with a meth kit... Then you can run 25-26 PSI and hit your number while still keeping the spool

why does pump gas / non-pump gas make a difference?

my masterpower TC61 turbo made 491 at the wheels last dyno, using stock manifolds and a modified T3 flange for exhaust.

rebuilding the engine now... new setup will include 2 new manifolds (FFIM intake +tubular exhuast) to take advantage of the huge intercooler i have so turbo should breath much better now.

when we took the TC61 off we saw that the turbine wheel didn't spin as easily as it should, which would explain the lag I was having.

what's wrong with a 62-1? just curious? i'll check out the other turbo's people have mentioned.

pump gas vs non pump gas is all about the boost level. on pump gas you can't run 30psi, etc. more or less asking at what boost level do you want to make 500rw.

all that to say, a pt67 is the way to go imo. 500rw on pump gas level boost and over 600rw on higher boost and race gas. expect full boost in the mid 4k rpm range. and less than $1k

I have a Turbonetics 62-1. Picked it up for $750 and a 1 year no questions asked warranty. I'm waiting on assembling my fuel system, so I've only been running around at 10-12 psi. It builds boost pretty quick, but I don't know what max power it would support (probably around 400-500 on pump gas, dunno for sure).

i think i was up to about 18-19psi when i hit 491hp on the masterpower TC61, on pump gas... we didn't want to push it more then that.

No, we use turbo's that are made by CompTurbo and are Top of the shelf turbo's. They are made here in the USA!

Do you know how much power you make @ 10-12psi?
