my motor was originally automatic and I converted it to manual before swapping it in..

anyhow, theres this opening (I think there's more than one but for now just this one) at the front of where the bell mounts to the motor on the bottom side and I'm sure there's supposed to be a dust cover or something on there to keep water, etc from getting in.

My friend said that whoever removed the auto tranny before I got the motorset probably knocked it out.

Any insight?

I've run without that cover for years with no problems. My 1JZ never had one. I got one with my 2JZ, but lost it before I could put it on.

lol ouch, its too dirty here for me to run without one...

Yes, 2JZ one is identical. Remember, the hole is in the oil pan, and the pans are the same part.

wait, i just bought one of what I thought these were from tlo..

just to be clear we are talking about a 6in or so opening where you can see into the bellhousing looking down from the motor side correct? I mean its a big ass gap and i figured the clutch might slip or like tlo said rocks and etc getting in there and screwing stuff up.

on the 7M it was an inspection cover, its sort of built into the JZ oil pan and the bellhousing bolts to the pan. its a piece you should have gotten apart of your engine but usually don't. its the only way you can see into the clutch area when the bellhousing is connected minus the inspection covers on the side.

31101-14010 cover sub-
31102-14010 cover sub-

they are about 55 bucks each

i'm just gonna get some speed tape from work and cover the holes with that. if it's good enough for a jet to fly with i figure it's good enough for my car!
