seeing as how my supra has a 7m, and i read everywhere that it is only good for lower end. But i am more of top end type of guy so the only choice would be to just go for the 1j because it can go to 7k. but my question is why not just build a 7m head and get a wider power band like the 1j, are the heads just that different?

There are 7M's revving over 7k. Make sure your valve train is up to it, lightweight rotating assembly, and cams will help.
the reason the 7m has such a low rpm range is not because of the head and valvetrain, but because of how long the stroke of the engine is
This has been covered a few 100 times already and always ends in bad blood arguments and someone getting all butthurt.
