Where does everyone that still has their stock gas tank mount their battery besides the engine bay? The kit I bought has hooks that hold onto the under side of the body. I'd love to mount my battery in the back right hand corner of my car, but the gas tank is there. :1zhelp:

depending on the kit you got...theres really only ONE SMALL section you can put a battery in the back of the car, have it be flat, have your targa clear it in the holders, and not have an interference problem with the gas tank.

i will say to mount the box you will have to pull the gas tank down and then mount it and then put the tank back up.

Actually, there's a spot that may fit... Remove the passenger side plastic cover back there in the hatch and there's an empty spot back there begging for a batter to be put there ;).

Do you have a picture of a battery located there? And, can you re-install the cover afterwards, or would you need to modify it to go back on afterwards? The targa can still go in with no problems?

No pics, sorry :(. I just noticed that it was large enough to fit a battery in, maybe not a stock sized one, but a good optima would fit since they make plenty of different sized ones ;).

do you have a battery box and all that stuff yet? If you can wait till later I will send you some photos of how I mounted it by drilling two holes to allow me to attach the nuts and lock washers on the underside without dropping the tank

There are dry-cell batteries out there. They can by mounted upside down or however you need. They also do not require a battery box for most racing regulations (as far as I know). They also are alot smaller and lighter. Of course they put out less than 300cca...

Starscream5000, I am relocating the battery for several reasons. 1. It transfers a good amount of weight from the front (non-driven) wheels to the rear (driven) wheels. 2. More traction thanks to more weight on the rear end, especially when drag racing. 3. Because of my headlight conversion, I need to relocate the battery to make room for the new headlights and custom radiator support reinforcement that will be going in soon. 4. It cleans up my engine bay by making it less crowded and makes room for other things (not sure what now besides the new headlights and radiator support reinforcement).

Chase, I already have the kit. It includes a fully enclosed cover that only has holes big enough for the cable to go through. How long before you can send me the pics? I plan on doing the relocation Sunday.

I do plan on upgrading to the Optima battery, but not at this time due to higher priorities. Besides, I don't have a stereo system anyways.

Here you go Adam. It is kind of hard to see but I used the hole closest to the back of the car from the tank access which allowed me to slide the nut and lock washer under and thread the post down (I would also suggest using another lock washer and nut on the other side). Then I drilled a hole on the other side being careful as to not drill a hole in the tank cause there was less than inch of room. That also allows you to get a lock nut and washer on the underside but it is a real PITA especially if you are doing it by yourself as you have to have one hand between the gas tank and car and the other in the trunk holding the post. If you have 2 people it will be much easier. You should also to the fuel pump rewire while you are at it.
