We just found out we have a leak in our roof. this is really odd because our roof is tile, on top of normal roofing stuff on top of 3x6's. we've never had a leak, but there's a problem...

we took a light fixture off that had filled with water (the glass cover filled up) and then took the mount off the ceiling and there is a LOT of bat crap in there.

I was wondering if anyone knows anything about;

do bats pee much as well as poop? I've seen their crap on my deck but i was wondering if maybe the murky liquid in that light fixture wasn't bat piss instead of a roof leak... It's pushing it, especially given the amount of liquid/water that was in there, but we have a good amount of bats and who knows how long that was there. there is mildew on the paint on our ceiling near it as well...

that aside, how the hell do you get rid of bats without killing them? anyone had experience with this?

Fuck it, kill them. I'd imagine throwing a whole batch of any type of strong insect fogger up there could make 'em drop dead. Cleanup would suck, but it'll cost less than an exterminator.

Don't take my word for it - just an idea.

Spend a couple evenings at dusk watching where they go in and out your house then one night after they all come out close there entrance hole.

ok here's another question for you guys;

Our roof is 3x6 inch tongue-and-groove....

can/do bats ever take the trouble to get through that much solid wood for a safe warm dry den?

if not, that will really narrow down our search. there are currently two possibilities we're looking at, either they burrowed through the roof, or they went through a little nook where two sections of our roof meet. I'm much more inclined to think the latter.

The bat will not burrow through the roof 3x 6, the latter
