I don't know what this is, but my car has a diesel truck sound to it when i feather the gas. I know i have holes in my exhaust, but it sounds like it is coming from my exhaust manifold. Maybe exhaust manifold leak, i checked for soot around the manifold, only on the top and didn't see anything. Anyway, it seems under load when i start from a stop in second that is when it is more noticeable. I actually hear it on the passenger side and it is more clearer if i start moving when something is on the right of me, like a wall, cause then i can hear it clearer. Just can't pinpoint it. I stuck a plastic tube to my ear and was trying to listen and it sounds like it is somewhere in the exaust manifold. It doesn't sound like rod knock, but i have only heard a car with one bad case of it. Im gonna try and get a sound clip of it sometime tonight.

With the car cold, start it up and immediately move your hand around the exhaust manifold and turbo area anywhere there is a gasket. You'll feel a puff of air somewhere if you've got a leak. Just do it quickly as things get very hot very quickly.
