So I take my new eagle rods to the machinest today and when i show up the other guy is like you better brake the news to him about the head. So I'm thinking shit what the fuck is wrong did they fuck up when they drilled my head. (I asked them to drill the head where the closed water passage is just behind cylinder #6) So he takes me to the back where my head is and shows me the cam. "you head is fine but you need new cams". I'm now thinking ok big deal thats nothing. So should I go with the N/a cams as I've heard it helps overall hp. or should i get turbo cams.

deffinitely go w/ the turbo cams, or you could look into buying crane cams... just an idea, but definitely stay away from n/a cams if you're looking to make that much hp

Be careful with buying aftermarket cams due to the fact that the high lift cams like to spit pucks.

If you want good quality cams, turbo or NA, go to the local napa store. They are cheaper than stock toyota and are made in the USA.

Joe Schesso made 610rwhp on NA Cams, and 512 when driving it around town, i dont get where people get off saying they are worthless after 400 or so.

post pictures. i don't think i've seen a set of 7M cams that WEREN'T scored up. i still re-used mine, my oil pressure didn't suffer at all, i have no problems at all with them. heh, i'm thinking that mid-winter when i'm doing bodywork, that i should pick up a set of 272's. ;)

^ Im with shaeff on this one. Everytime I have taken my head to the machinest I use, hes always like "your cams and journals are fucked". I asked this question a few years ago on SM/SF with pics, and everyone said i was fine.

well the cams are still at the machinest so i cant post pics but the "damage" was to the cam bearing area and no damage to the head at all.

Those cams are fine. Many machinist see those, and think they are shot.

You need to take good pictures of them with the *macro* setting of your camera so we can see them. Nice and up close.

My guess is that the journals are dark grey and have scratches. That is absolutley fine.

I have never seen Supra cams that were scored in person. I have seen cam journals scored, and the reason the customer cam in was upper end knock. Honestly, I guess mine were just not that way.

Visual is not the indicator as much as feel.

yea looks like some small chunks got up there when the guy got two rods knocking. if youve ever used a lathe to make something you know the feeling of the metal right after you machine it it felt kind of like that only on a smaller scale. I dont have a camra other then my phone if someone posted a pic i could say if itwas worse or better or just the same as the pic. thanks for everyones help
