Well our stint with high speed internet was short lived. Since we live in the country we had to go wireless which meant having to have a large pole attached to the side of our house. It extends about 20 feet above the roofline. It had to be that high to get a direct line of sight to the transmitter. Anyway. Last Saturday, my daughter had her belated birthday party, lot's of loud little girls so my son and I got the fuck out of town and went to the movies (Bourne Ultimatum, awesome, go see it). At the end of the movie I check my phone which had been on silent and I have 5 missed calls from my wife. I call her and she's in a panic. The internet pole got struck by lightning during a storm that popped up and fried a bunch of shit. A little girl was playing my daughters Game Cube and got zapped, the fire dept had to come out and did a thermal scan of the attic which turned out ok. It fried the GameCube, the wireless router almost caught on fire, it smouldered for a while, fried my new 5.1 Surround system I had just bought for my computer, a vcr, our home security system, a phone charger and other misc items.
So the wife says the pole has to go, which I don't blame her. I'm currently exploring other high speed options, which are very few where I live, so until then I'm dialing into my dads ISP. So viewing pics on here will suck and it really sucks that our work IT dept blocks photobucket and all other storage websites so I can't view pics at work.
It could have been worse though. That little girl that got zapped is ok and so is my family and the house is still standing. The Supe is ok too.
