i have a sport-comp 2 egt and i cant figure out whats wrong with it. when i start the car it wroks fine but as son as i touch anything it goes haywire. by that i mean 1200,400,800,0 200. it jumps all over then just stays at zero. i have checked all wiring. i also have a elec fuel pressure gauge on the same power and ground and it works fine. any ideas would be helpful i cant afford a new one.

thanks
Dan

2 different cars, 2 different autometer gauges same thing. nothing is loose all connections are good its been double checked and been completely redone twice.
i even isolated the gauges onto their own circuit with the own grounds. routed the signal wire away from any possible interference, and with all loads on(heater, lights, 4-way, wipers, etc..) it still does it.
you are not alone, but my theory is when there is high load on your battery alternator, the other accessories demand more power and since it doesnt take much amps to run a gauge the gauge is the last priority, the larger drawing accessories steal the power from the little one basically.
another thing i noticed is that the light bulbs they give you suck get rid of them! they make the gauge super hot which effects resistance. mine got so hot it could burn my finger if i touched it, just try and imagine that gauge working right if its over 100 degrees f. switch to colored LED bulbs, instead of those stupid colored condoms over intensely hot regular bulbs. that is what actually made the difference in my situation.

Just a thought,
I have an autometer egt gauge. On mine (not sure if all autometers are the same) The two wires coming off the probe are bolted to the wires going to the gauge. I heat shrinked them separately so they do not touch and/or short on anything. I have never had problems with it.

If yours are not shrinked they very well could be touching or shorting out.

I have one too and I agree with this 100%. I was going to suggest the signal wires grounding or another wiring/insulation issue.

i can see that being a issue. when it dries out here ill go and check that. i have the fp and egt gauges run in different plastic looms but the all the egt wires are run in the same one. mabye they are shorted never thought of that. thanks guys
