I tried to search, but... Anyway, I noticed that my automatic transmision was leaking. I went underneath an noticed that it was coming from somewhere in the front of the transmission before and above the tranny fluid pan. I am assuming that it is tranny fluid. But could it be coolant too? I just topped up the tranny fluid, so I guess I can figure out what it is from that. The leaking fluid sure as hell stained the garage like tranny fluid. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

ANy clue on how to get to it. Yes, I just started to work on my own car a few months ago, and I have no idea about the above post. +1 for Supraboostin for pointing me in the right direction. Thanks.

You have to pull the tranny. If you've never worked on a auto tranny, I wouldn't recommend this repair. I'd go ahead and buy a banner rebuild set & have it rebuilt. Pulling the tranny isn't fun, at least it wasn't for me, so I'd have everything done in one shot.

What is a banner rebuild set? Thanks. +1

It's a rebuild kit without the "hard parts", so it doesn't include the steel disks, pins, et al. It has the clutches, seals & gaskets.

Another point, there is a difference between the turbo A340E & the non turbo A340E. IIRC, the NA A340E has 4 clutches in the 1st & 2nd brakes (clutch packs) while the Turbo A340E has 5. If you order the rebuild kit, keep this in mind or you stand a chance of having your tranny rebuilt to NA specs.

Yeah its that exact oil seal. My tranny had the same problem and I had to remove the tranny and fix it. Hated it coz everybody was busy and I had to use a normal jack to hold the back of the tranny up while i was under the car with one hand holding the front end to align and bolt it back onto the engine. Tranny almost fell on my face with me lying under the car because my arm was getting tired but I had to keep holding it.
Was f$*%^@& after I mounted it back. Its alot easier with the right tranny jack and with another person helping.

Cheers,
Roy
