1) i HATE autos

2) will a 91 NA ECT Ecu for an auto work in a 87 NA auto? the harness clips in but are they compatible?

i put the car in drive and it seems like its in 4th to begin with...it barely revs or accelerates.... put it in reverse...works fine...put it in L works and accelerates fine....put it in 2 works and accelerates fine.... drive bogs and barely makes it to 2k...

now i dropped the pan thinking solenoids but i took out both the number 1 and the number 2 solenoid and bench tested them with power and ground...both open and close the valves... (im assuming this is the only way to test proper function????) so im pretty sure both of the solenoids are good. and im assuming the lockup solenoid wouldnt have anything to do with my problem?

i took out a "nappy" 87 ECT ecu and put in the 91 not thinking much about it...i think i tossed the 87 one.... i NEVER drove the car before i did this so i dont know if this is the problem. but if it is id rather have the easy fix then having to drop the pan on the tranny and deal with solenoid changes (which is my other thought)

another thing to this is the kickdown cable wont extend fully...meaning when its attached it wont let the throttle body open more then about 1/4 of the way.... could this be part of the problem as well? (i disconected it to test the driving issues so i know im going WOT etc)

and finally....if it has to be year specific...or not..... will a TURBO ECT ecu work in a NA auto?

not sure on that one but i did have reecent issues with the abs ecu. there are differences between early models and later models. perhaps the same could happen to you. Not saying it deffo will but better to check first

1) they hate you

2)probably not, they do not have the same shift schedule or lock up

thank you! after the solenoids tested out fine i was almost positive they just arent compatible...so i scoured two junkyards today and found one supra....somehow luckily for me it was exactly what i needed...a 87 NA auto with the ect ecu still there.... junkyard wanted 52 bucks for it! ha! i got them down to 17 bucks and took it lol.

im gonna go put everything back together and plug this in and see where i stand...im HOPING it was just the stupid ect ecu...

thanks
