DFW Texas
Fur Trader and Project Cheezgrator.

So I moved to DFW, Texas, for a good job. Once I arrived I picked up a beaten-with-the-ugly-stick 192k mile NA auto '89 targa to daily about with.

Been slowly bringing this heap up to "roadworthy". It's hard due to living in an apartment and having all my tools in a storage unit, plus hating the apartment makes me save up for a house instead of dumping money into the Supra.

Sharp eyes will spot the sawblade directional mismatch. The rights are both on the front, the lefts are on the rear LOL.

Note the broken bondo by the fuel filler door - this panel has been hit and repaired before.

1st mod was deleting the rear wiper and the maroon '88 wing. Not worthy of pics because the block-off bolts for the jagged holes (thanks to the PO who installed the wing on an originally wingless car) are almost as ugly as the wing was. However this weight reduction was enough to allow the marginal hatch struts to keep the hatch up.

2nd mod was a used HKS NA exhaust which sounds wonderful and allows me to breathe air with much fewer fumes.

Today's "mod" was some high-performance JDM tie rod ends from Driftmotion to fix the continously-variable-toe-in problem that made for some wobbly freeway experiences.

These removed about 90% of the front-end shakiness. It's still not rock-solid or up to the standards of a new Mazda or a used Porsche, but it's good enough for daily commuting.

Next step is fresh rubber, probably on the sawblades as I've been having zero craigslist luck finding the magic combo of acceptable rims plus tires with visible tread remaining.

Soon I have a window of opportunity to drop the heap off at a ghetto Dallas bodyshop to have teh cheezgrator corner hammered out, bondo-slathered, and sprayed (probably poorly) for a few bucks.

Once those steps are done I will be hard pressed to do anything more than fixing up broken bits like outside doorhandle, A/C, foglights, just little things and keeping it running.

Once I get a house with a garage, though, it's likely that there will a higher degree of seriousness. Coilovers, swaybars, full poly, drastic weight reduction, lip, wheels with proper fitment, seats, harness, etc, etc. And then 1.5JZ? 1UZ? LS1? Twin Redbull-charged squirrels? Anything but the sluggish 7MGE.
