alright well two days ago i was driving, and since the road was empty about a block away from my home, i decide to do a little spirited acceleration, well when i hit 4500 RPM i heard this loud Whining type sound, my friend said that it's probably my belts. so i check the belts, and the tensioner, the tensier was a bit loose, so i tightened it, but the whining sound is still there! and i did a search and i found some threads where it said that the whining sound could possibly be my turbo dying! is that true?!? also i have the wastegate shimmed by two washers. anyone know what it might be? what i should look at? any help is welcome! Thanks in advance!

ummm....... death whine doesn't sound like a belt problem..... my guess would be turbo (...) or PS pump, or something related to it. I would say PS if you haven't checked it.

Maybe a better description of the whine would help?

Trust me, if it is your PS, DO NOT RUN YOUR CAR...get the fluid and fill it, caz the PS pumps, there not really that "hard" to change, there just a PAIN to find. and when you do, there quit pricey. so...check that. i would be willing to bet thats what it is, thats what mind did. and when i fixed it it was fine...

yeah, better check the play on the shaft of your turbo. of course check the oil,see if its clean or burnt, check the upper ic pipes going to the throttlr body and check for excessive oil

(edit: also is there a write up somewhere about checking for shaft play? not 100% sure what to do to check it and how to fix it if there is...)
i'm still good on oil, but i decided to do an OC anyways...
PS Fluid, i very low, so tomorrow i'm going to be filling that up...

also i took it for a drive just around the block, and i noticed that the sound only comes when i hit 4500 and dis appears after i pass 5K? and my boost gauge reads 8psi at 3500...

if it was the Death Whine of the turbo wouldn't it go on once i hit full boost? or no?

well, reach 4500 without flooring or boosting, and see if it still whines.
If it does, then it is ot the turbo. if it is silent...
