ARP bolt questions

ok what size socket fits the ARP headbolts I'm having a hard enough time getting one down there much less figuring out wether or not it's metric. Also should I have found a way to put the washers in? they didn't seem to fit. so did I mess up something crucial?

with my studs it was a 14mm 12 point. and the washers i could just drop down or use needle nose plires to set them on the stud, but it;s probly different with bolts. take one of you bolts out and find a socket that fits.

oh shit, I meant studs. I couldn't get the washer on there and have already torqued to 75 will it be alright? the 14 seemed a bit loose, 9/16 seems like a better fit but it still feels off.

The washer will help distribute the high load of (74 ft/lbs in yoru case) over the surface so you'll have less stress. Since it is an auminum head i would have reccomended the use of washers, but hopefully things are gona be fine :icon_conf

yea shit, I couldn't get one on and kinda put it in the back of my head, should I do something to get them on there? it's only been run a few minutes and only torqued to 75.

on the head that came with my 89+ (dont know year) jdm gte motor i was able to get the washers in place with the studs installed.

with my 86.5 head on my gte motor i had to put the washers inplace BEFORE i threaded in the studs.

and the size for the nuts is 9/16.

i usually interchange 14mm and 9/16, but the two sizes are probably slightely different.

88, I installed the head over the studs. D'oh. so what's the verdict is this nut metric or what?

you already know what i used but i would definatly put those washers on. they do serve a purpose. like eric said, they spread the load out. and yeah, i set the head on the block and then skrewed the studs in.

ok so I go through and redo bolts one by one or the whole head and try not to move it?

I'd do them one by one.

To get the washers on, I use a long screwdriver. Put the washer over the screwdriver, hold it next to the handle, put the screwdriver tip on the stud and let the washer slide down onto the stud.

ARP is the oddest bolt I have found - metric threads and imperial wrenches. My head bolts are 1/2 inch, IIRC the head stud nuts are 9/16.
