If any of you have seen my other thread: Other Thread you would know my d/s is toast. I called and spoke with jeff @ jawsgear and ill be ordering a 1 peice aluminum deal.

What were your impressions from going from the stock to the lighterweight 1 peice unit. From what i've gathered i should rev faster and decell faster from reving down.Feel free to add your experience with a 1 peice wether its from jawsgear or not. I just need some inspiration, while the car is down for another week.

jawsgear d/s's are a bit to long i've herd and it takes something to shorten them i forgot what though but i've herd the best thing to do is get them to install it or else you will have trouble. this is all from what i've read

They ask for specific measurements before you place your order. If the measurements are off then the d/s wont fit.Remeber first hand experience is better than "hear say" but i appreciate your input.

I have their one piece steel on my '88 N/A 5 spd. I love it. The acceleration is more responsive, due both to reduction of rotating mass and removing the loss created by the carrier bearing. I only notice the 'one piece whine' which alot of people mention when i decellerate very quickly.

I had Jeff use the measurements they have on file when they made mine and the fit was perfect! It is always the best bet to measure for the DS yourself though to be sure. There are a number of things which could cause the size to be off just enough to cause trouble.

I'm running one on my '87NA. I love it. I could def. notice a differece, but there is a little more chatter though.

Mo

Edit: It's not from Jawsgear. I purchased it from Bishop a long time ago

Thanks cre, just the input i was looking for. I debated on the steel or aluminum. Id figured it would be best for me if i went the aluminum route, epecially while i have the money to do so.

Ive read some about some slight vibration over the stock unit, do u have any, and is it very noticible, if any at all.

Actually, I have no vibration issues at all. Haven't pushed past 100 since I've installed it, but no noise up to 100MPH. I don't know if I got licky or if Jaws' DS is just that well made, but I'm very happy with it. The reports of vibration had me very edgy about going to a one piece.

The weight difference between the stocker and the steel one piece was surprising. Either way I'm sure you'll be happy with it.

I would look into steel instead, but regardless...

I was looking into this as well, since I'm having the carrier bearing issue. I'd love to get a 1 piece, but money is very tight. There is a place around here that sells carrier bearings for $60, I dunno what I should do.

What's wrong with this post!

You have no firsthand knowledge of the product

You haven't posted a link to what you've "read"

Spelling

You "forgot"

Dude seriously rethink your posts as they're not helping anyone and could harm the Vendor and it's NOT like we have people tripping over each other to make Mk3 parts......

Any particular reason beside the cost being a factor why you would choose steel over aluminum. Remember we are n/a and the more weight we can lose the better.

Fuzz: I have a well documented bias against 1 piece shafts but that's due to my particular car/gearing/usage.

An NA isn't ever going to put the loads and speeds into a shaft that are common for me so my best "guess" it would work without problems and will certainly reduce the rotating mass even though being a small diameter I can't see it making a lot of difference!

I appreciate the the feed back.Im mainly doing the aluminum b/c to have my old one repaired would still cost more so why not upgrade:naughty: I do plan on boosting my n/a eventually but nothing close to what your doing so hopefully this is one of those things that will pay off in the long run.

supra_z's information aside, thanks for starting this thread Fuzz. I've been thinking of going to a one-piece but needed solid info like you'd requested. you think you could do a followup on the pros and cons, if you do go through with an aluminum one-piece d/s?

again, sorry i didnt have any info but im looking forward to your input.

Id be more than glad to give feed back once i have it and it gets installed. Oh and trust me i will be ordering the alum. 1 peice.Cre seems to be happy with his steel one, so i should be more than happy with aluminum.
