From before the hacker induced crash. Someone was trying to make a new version of our center console, and was going to post pictures shortly.

Hopefully he's signed up here again, and will post pics soon!

If your speaking of the where the heater controls and such mount I have a one-off fiberglass peice. I made a template with an old console and came out with a blank layover. From there I cut out where accessories would mount and installed mounts for them. I moved the heater to the inside of the armrest, removed the ashtray, and installed an LCD screen in there place. The whole thing was smothed, filled and painted satin black to match the factory unit as best as possible. I won't have any pictures for about a month because the car is in storage and I didn't have a camera after I installed it. I would be happy to answer any questions though.

I was following that thread too. I'm actually curious to see the pictures. I made a template for the ashtray unit to house two 52mm gauges long ago (Although I've seen several like this), but am really interested in what he's come up with.

Yeah its me,tte...

Sorry for the delay guys but my prototypes are being made at a friend's composite company and he has been really busy so I had to wait.

I had completed the mold at home. Had to experiment with 3 different types of mold materials until I found the right one...I finally made the mold out of marble...another friend whose dad owns a marble company helped me make the marble for it.Looks good n feels smooth like glass.
Here are pics of the mold....

Two prototypes were built and begin worked on currently..
Will post pics of them

Cheers,
Roy

As you can all see in the above pics that i have posted the climate control unit recess, emergency lights button recess, headlight wiper button recess, cigarette lighter recess will remain.

Parts will be painted black with a smooth finish and would be available in carbon fiber too.

Feel free to ask any questions...and thank you for your patience.

Cheers,
Roy

nice. good job roy. i cant wait to see the finished product. if you could make these with a single din opening, i think you'd be onto something. single din + no lighter hole.... very nice

Well you can use many materials to make a mold...

Silicone,latex,polyurethane,plaster,clay.....all have their own good properties and are used for different reasons.

I know some people who own fiberglass companies and they use silicone if they want to bring out fine detail....I tried silicone but it was too flimpsy..I had to make a fiberglass jacket to place at the back of the silicone mold. The sillicone had to be added layer by layer when it was tacky and this took alot of time. Latex is too soft and would tear when you remove the fiberglass part from the latex mold.

So i decided to try marble....took the plug to a friend's marble company and they just poured the liquid marble on the plug...Within a couple of hours it was hard...bufffed it,waxed it and applied a layer of mold release
and wa..la.....it was done....The marble mold took me 2 days to make...i wasted alot of time with my silicone mold....but lesson learnt...silicone is expensive though but lucky for me i got it all free...i also recieved 5 gallons of part A and 5 gallons of part B to make Foam...all free....a gallon of each part would cost over $100....Tried it...didnt like it....

Its all good for your own learning and self knowledge...After this i shall be making all my Supra body panels out of carbon fiber or fiberglass or honeycomb....that way I shall obtain more experience and hopefully sell some.

Cheers,
Roy

Here are the pics of the first prototype and how things would look.
The products will have a better paint finish....I am not a experienced painter so i know a friend who paints really good...anyway you guys will be cutting and drilling to mount your gages and so you will have to paint it to the color which suits you....

The top 2 buttons, climate control and the cig hole remains.
What do you guys all think?

Cheers,
Roy

It would be cool to get something like that done - you could make whatever size holes desired to mount "odd sized" electronics perfectly, wherever you want.

That would be awesome to see how your body panels come out. Might be a way to help shave a little weight from our beasts while retaining the beautiful look.
