"i know that the xspower 2j NA-T kit uses one with a 1.05 AR"

That would be ok if you want your turbo to spool tomorrow.

A t61 with a .84 hot side could put you in the 500rwhp range. No cams needed with the stock rev limit. With a .70 you'll still hit the 500 range just probably need more psi to do it.. More as in over 25psi. That's just my opinion.. Good luck.

the reasoning behind it, is so that you arent boosting all the time, more of a HW set up

no you are talking about the infamous ebay turbos the "T04B" with a .60 cold side a/r and 1.05 hot a/r.... that turbo will NEVER see 500 wheel hp and is just one step above beig total shit. they are made in china.... which is okay for my TV but not my turbo.
the also stated "T61" i hope you are not also talking about the ebay one because that is not a real T61 they just gave it the name to get stupid people to buy it.
look at the turbo in my SIG .... it is a REAL t04b authentic roto-master(bought out by Garret) with a .60 cold a/r and a .69 hot a/r ON CENTER housing
you be the judge of quality
