I am in Tampa, Florida area. Anyone in Florida capable of building a truly top notch a340 auto tranny or should I just send out to Boost Logic, IPT or IJ's buddy in Kangaland? Feedback, suggestions and money-saving ideas very welcome.

IPT is a little more than Boost Logic. Do they offer something better or did you have a very good experience with them?

Duane:

I agree TH400 is stout but my primary purpose is not the strip. It's going to be a 200 mph daily driver and I like to keep the original GT qualities of the Supra intact.

I had my tranny built by them...excellent experience. Tranny performs as advertised ;)

As advertised is capable of running sub 10's. I would like to go for that one day.

Given a top quality and substantial tranny cooler, is there anything that would prevent the same tranny from holding up to sustained speed in excess of 200mph?

Well...IPT says it will hold over 500 HP. Took mine to the track a while back and ran an 11.81...good enough for me. Also had it at 150 on an oval...no problems.

A good tranny cooler is an excellent idea...I have a Spal fan on mine too. I also installed a filter head w/ a trasko bypass filter.

I need close to 500 hp just to overcome aero. 150 equates to about half that power. Nonetheless, MKIV's ruuning below 10 are well in excess of 600 hp, which should be adequate for my goals.

I previously read something about fans and the tranny cooler. Maybe it was by you. I will search for more info on this and the bypass.

Who should I talk to at IPT?

Believe the guy's name was John. Think about what stall you want to get...gonna depend on when your turbo spools and is a tradeoff against slip. I'm running a 3000 stall...IJ is at 2800 (he's got a fast spooling turbo). IMO, anything much above 3000 is for a drag car.

Also might want to ping him concerning the clutch plates. IPT uses the Blues...IJ mentioned using a brown plate in his thread. Says it has a bit more surface area.

BTW - a Supra Stick V4 is on my agenda...IJ picked one up as well.

Glad you mentioned the stall speed. This is something I really don't understand too well. I think I may understand from a drag strip perspective. That is a higher stall allows substantial boost before torque converter lockup allowing launch at high power. With street cars, is the objective to match stall to onset of positive boost, say 1 psi?

I am using a GT40RLS (DBB) with a .95 AR. It will spool later than IJ's GT35R. Would it be similar to your SP61GT?

It's on my agenda too. First the basics.

Getting late.

I tried to get boost logic to do auto trannys for the mk3 for years now. They only do them for the mk4. Sound performance does the mk3 auto also, but I believe they send them out. IPT does them in house, john is who you would talk to. I have an account with IPT and you may get a little better deal if you mention me. Don't really recomend Level 10 to build a tranny.

but the mk4's and 3's are virtually the same.

I don't see why the BL's wont do it.

I'd say check the SF tech section there is a thread on how to bulid and make the A304E last.
I'm going to follow that to shim my actuator aperently it should hold over 400 WHP for a while once you do tha.t

IJ:

May I get some contact info for MV automatics?

I plan on installing several B&M fluid coolers before I am done. I see you even have one in the back. Was that the one for the tranny with fan?

Rich:

That's a bit of a letdown. BL is substantially less money and they have a very proven record. I appreciate your offer about IPT. I will contact John and mention you. I have heard bad things about Level 10 elsewhere. I have also heard good things. Guess that's the problem. It's a coin toss.

Zazzn:

I have been sifting through threads trying to figure out what makes the MK3 and MK4 autos different. Besides the electronic control of line pressure, it seems that the MK4 a341 and maybe even the MK4 a340 have better clutches. Also the housings may be somewhat different.

There are plenty of MK4 a34X's making great power. Has anyone swapped a MK4 a341 into their MK3 yet?

dgilman: Yeah, they are confusing:confused:

I understand that the A341 is almost the same as the a340E and you maybe enve able to swap the valve body over to make it work with the mk3.

TH400

From reading SF, alot of guys who drive their cars on the street often with a TH400 really regretted it to some extent and wish they still had a Toyota trans(6spd or built auto).

Not all but alot.
