Anyone have problems getting motor off transmission?

Hey guys. I am pulling the motor and I now realize it would have been much easier keeping the transmission on it... Regardless, everything is disconnected and when we pull it out, it feels like its still attached to the transmission and it wont let go. We can't pull it out, everything is clearly dissconected. Is it stuck on the input shaft? Even then, how can it be stuck so hardcore. Anytime we try and seperate the motor from the transmission, it like springs back to the transmission. Any input would be nice. Thanks guys!

You have to either remove the clutch fork or unbolt the pressure plate through the access port on the bell housing. If you don't, you will never get it separated.

x2, had the same problem when I did my swap, and I pulled the engine and trans together.

Removing the fork takes me all of 5 min....how are you guys having troubles?

Not trying to be mean or anything....when I'm about to tackle a job, I stop and stare at it...I look how it all works and inspect every nut and bolt...this may waste time but saves you from frustration!

Stop and think about what you are doing before you get all elbow deep in turning bolts!

About a month ago Rick (kotu100) and I tried to separate a 7m from a R154. The motor and trans was out of the car and on a pallet. Pulled the clutch fork out and the trans still wouldnt slide off the clutch. Even with a three foot pry bar and my 275lbs of gorilla strength trying to pull it apart it wouldnt separate. Couldnt get more than a 1'' gap between the motor and bellhousing. Ended up unbolting the pressure plate from the flywheel through the inspection ports. After doing this the trans came right off the engine. The clutch is still stuck on the input shaft Could not get it off for the life of me. Our goal was to get the flywheel which we achieved so I just said fuck it, and left it there.

+1 pretty easy take a long screw driver remove that crescent clip and pop the bolt up and the fork falls down.

How do you guys get to the fork then? There is barely any room to get between the bell housing and motor. Is there some access port or something? Thanks for the quick help guys

Hanes, Chiltons, TSRM all go off removal of Pressure plate. Installation is reverse. Don't lose the E clip for the rod that holds the clutch fork. While off replace that rod or both rod and fork with a new one from toyota, as over time they wear down. Mine actually had wear down so bad it looked like a mini bump stick.

PS replace the throw out bearing retainers.
