Anyone have experience with this ampeg amp?

I may be able to get a whopping good deal on it, but the problem is, no guitar center in my area stocks it, and I really wanted to play it for a while before purchase.

2 of my friends say nothing but good about it, but I still want reinforcement before I buy this thing blind.

I had a few Ampegs a while back, including the older model of that one. Every one I ever own had to be repaired constantly. Half the time, they were wired wrong from the factory!

I play with a guy who has that amp (pretty sure it's the exact model). Sounds good to me, though I have never used it myself.

Any specific questions you want me to ask him? - I'll be seeing him tomorrow night.

Is it worth the money. What kind of mids can I get, what about the higher notes with only 1 tweeter and one 15 inch speaker.

I played on the solid state 100 watt one, and it was alright. Im pretty dead set on buying if I can get the price right

I had an 18, four 10's and only one tweeter. One tweeter is all you will ever need.

Yeah, Most of the large single speaker amps Ive played through are alright, but I could never get the high I wanted with them, albeit , I never messed with their settings because they weren't mine(friends houses) but I guess I have just a different sound that most.

Whatever I feel like usually. I have no one to really play with at this point so Ive started to cover songs.

aI'm usualy in C, drop D or standard. A lot of music ive been covering lately comes from Joy Division, The Who, Interpol. Yatta yatta.

I tend to enjoy jumping octaves as well so I really do need that high sound, but I'm pretty sure its all gravy

I forgot to ask him specifics about the amp - though he did say he has had good experiences with the brand. He plays mostly funk - hits the highs quite often and it sounds quite good. That said, he uses this as his jam/practice amp as he has a little nicer equipment for shows.

Check these out. Carvin kicks the crap out of Ampeg and is cheaper. I also have never had a single problem with one.
